Why Muslims Welcome Death: It Is Not the End, It Is the Beginning
Many people fear death because they do not know what comes next.
But for a believer, death is not the end of life. It is the beginning of a greater life.
A Muslim does not seek death, nor wish for it prematurely. We cherish the life Allah has given us. But when death arrives, we welcome it with hope, because Allah and His Messenger ﷺ have already told us what awaits the righteous.
Allah says:
“Indeed, those who have said, ‘Our Lord is Allah’ and then remained steadfast, the angels will descend upon them, saying, ‘Do not fear and do not grieve, but receive good news of Paradise, which you were promised.’”
(Qur’an 41:30)
Imagine that moment. As a believer leaves this world, angels come with glad tidings, telling them not to fear.
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
“Whoever loves to meet Allah, Allah loves to meet him.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim)
When the believing servant approaches death, angels descend from heaven with bright faces carrying the shroud and fragrance of Paradise. His soul is gently removed, and the gates of heaven are opened for him.
The Prophet ﷺ described the believer’s soul leaving the body like a drop of water flowing from a vessel.
Then begins a journey of mercy, peace, and reward.
Allah promises:
“Indeed, the righteous will be among gardens and rivers, in a seat of honor near a Sovereign Perfect in Ability.”
(Qur’an 54:54-55)
This is why Muslims are not terrified by death. We are not walking into the unknown.
We have guidance.
We have promises.
We have hope.
It’s like entering a dark room. One person has a flashlight, and the other doesn’t. Who feels more at ease?
The believer has the light of revelation. Allah has already shown us what lies ahead.
Death is not goodbye.
It is the first step toward meeting our Creator.
May Allah make our final words, La ilaha illa Allah, and grant us a beautiful ending and an eternal home in Paradise. Ameen. 🤲🏻
