🌍✨ Celebrating International Skull Base Surgery Day – June 4 ✨🌍 Today, we honor the pioneering spirit and groundbreaking contributions of two legends in medicine: Harvey Cushing, the renowned American neurosurgeon, and Oskar Hirsch, the visionary Viennese otolaryngologist. On June 4, 1910, both independently performed their first submucous transseptal variation of the transsphenoidal approach, marking a monumental leap in the evolution of skull base surgery. Their innovative techniques, the sublabial approach championed by Cushing and the endonasal route mastered by Hirsch, revolutionized access to the pituitary and parasellar region through the transnasal transsphenoidal approach. These techniques have since become the cornerstone of modern transsphenoidal surgery, shaping the future of skull base surgery and improving countless lives. This day serves as a tribute not only to these pioneers but also to the interdisciplinary and international collaboration that has propelled advancements in the field. It’s a reminder of how far we’ve come and an inspiration for future innovations in the care of complex skull base conditions. 🧠💡 Let us celebrate the progress and honor the legacy of Cushing and Hirsch as we continue to innovate, collaborate, and push the boundaries of what’s possible in skull base surgery. #SkullBaseSurgeryDay #MedicalInnovation #GlobalHealth #Neurosurgery #Otolaryngology #SurgicalPioneers #Cushing #Hirsch @NeuroSurgeryNJ @CBMCNJ @pituitaryorg @Pituitary_org @PituitarySoc @PituitaryWNews @NASBSorg @AANSNeuro @AANSNeurosurg @TheJNS @CNS_Update @DrZNeurosurgery @UofUNeurosurg @NYUneurosurgery @GarniBDarian @JamieVanGompel @jacquesmorcosmd @SC_Froelich @ManishKAghi @drvijay_agarwal @ShrivastavaMD @ladyspinedoc @RUNeurosurgery @drRMP10 @drjfm_stanford @PerisCelda @amirdehdashti @Pituitary_Surg @davidgudismd @PrevedelloDanny @neurosurgatlas @DoctorZada @AaronCohenGadol @EmorySkullBase @SkullBaseDocs @skullbasedoc @SkullBase_doc @DrBaskaya @ASamyYoussef
