BREAKING: The Court of Appeal has backed the government's appeal against the High Court and reinstated the proscription of Palestine Action as a terrorist organisation. As I've been noting for some time, this was always going to happen. The police ignored the High Court's ruling of proscription as unlawful and continued arresting people as terrorists for holding placards stating: "I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action." On Friday, Judge Johnson upgraded the criminal damage convictions of the Filton Four to terrorism offences in his sentencing, even though at the time of sentencing Palestine Action was not, in the eyes of the courts, considered a terrorist organisation. It was as though the High Court decision never happened. We have been subjected to legal threatre to make it look as if the judiciary have carefully weighed our most cherished and basic rights against the interests of the British state in continuing its complicity in the Gaza genocide. This has all been a stitch-up to keep the focus on the faux-illegality of opposing a genocide rather than the very real illegality of the British state colluding in atrocities that have killed many tens of thousands – and more likely, hundreds of thousands – of civilians in Gaza. Anyone who has supported this dangerous farce should hang their heads in shame.

1929, Jerusalem, Palestine 🇵🇸 The First Palestine Arab Women’s Congress, also known as the First Arab Women’s Congress or the Palestinian Arab Women’s Congress, was a landmark women’s rights conference held in Jerusalem on the 26th of October 1929. Organized by the Arab Women’s Association of Palestine, the congress marked the association’s inaugural public event and represented the first organized, collective entry of Palestinian women into the political arena.

If a company tried selling apartments in apartheid South Africa in London, there would be outrage. Yet Labour is allowing a real estate fair marketing homes in illegal Israeli settlements built on stolen Palestinian land. Labour rolls out the red carpet for Israeli war criminals, criminalises those resisting genocide, and keeps supplying arms to a genocidal apartheid state. Ban this event NOW.
Almost 100 MPs and Peers are urging Ministers to prevent the 'Great Israeli Real Estate Event' taking place in London this weekend. The govt has an opportunity to uphold obligations under international law and take action against Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestine.

Tomorrow the Court of Appeal rules on the ban of Palestine Action as a terrorist organisation. In February, the High Court ruled the ban unlawful. The Government decided to appeal this decision and police have continued to arrest people who have peacefully opposed the ban. Amnesty International has intervened in this case because the Palestine Action ban was a grave misuse by the government of sweeping counter terror powers.

Betore Rome, there was Carthage. Before Carthage, there was Tyre. Europe, Princess of Tyre, gave her name to the continent of Europe, to those who, today, let Israel destroy her city, Tyre—a city more than 5,000 years old—by European weapons without saying a word. What you see in this image are not merely ordinary columns; they are the historical columns of Tyre in southern Lebanon are iconic Roman architectural remains. They are part of an ancient Phoenician city-state that is now a UNESCO World Heritage site. I could not identify any military targets that would justify striking a UNESCO World Heritage protected site. We are watching history beirg erased in real time by Israel.

Leading medical journal The Lancet publishes call to expel Israeli Medical Association over Gaza genocide —— Medical journal The Lancet has published a petition calling for the Israeli Medical Association to be boycotted and expelled from the World Medical Association over its failure to condemn what the petition describes as Israel's genocide against Palestinians and the collapse of Gaza's healthcare system. The campaign, launched by the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, Healthcare Workers for Palestine, and Doctors for Gaza, has so far received support from more than 1,150 healthcare professionals and medical organizations. The call for expulsion is expected to be raised at the World Medical Association's general assembly in October. The Israeli Medical Association opposed the move, arguing that its expulsion would not advance peace, healthcare, or human rights, and would instead create a precedent for using political pressure campaigns to isolate healthcare workers based on their nationality.

A fundamental principle being lost here - is that if you are charged with terrorism - you can defend yourself by explaining why you are not. As the Filton 4 were never charged or found guilty of terrorism - the judge who sentenced them as terrorists -has denied them this right.

I spent all day in Woolwich Crown Court yesterday for the Filton activists' sentencing hearing with my colleague @daniaakkad. The court heard that the Terrorism Act was never intended to cover direct action protest. It heard that all of the defendants had been cleared of violent intent and sentencing them as terrorists would mark a historic first for charges of criminal damage. It heard that the Suffragettes, who did "a bit of smashing themselves", would have been labelled as terrorists but have now been vindicated by history. It heard the activists' goal was to stop the supply chain of drones and weaponry to Israel as it commits genocide in Gaza. It heard that attaching a terrorism connection to a case without it ever being heard by a jury was unconstitutional and posed a threat to the criminal justice system itself. It heard that the "terrorism connection" has been disproportionately used against minority groups and those advocating for them while not being used for neo-Nazis and white supremacists, including the man who killed Jo Cox MP. It heard that the law has been reinterpreted since the action took place, meaning the activists could have had no idea that what they did could have been caught up in terrorism laws at the time of the protest. It heard that the prosecution submitted key evidence just eight days before the hearing, giving the defence no time to review it or even discuss it with their clients. Despite all of this, Judge Jeremy Johnson, who has already tried to refer the defence's lead barrister for contempt of court and been forced to apologise for it, sentenced the defendants as terrorists. The judgment was handed down within minutes, indicating Judge Johnson had already made his mind up before the hearing had begun. Being in court yesterday felt akin to witnessing a colonial crime: punishing activists with terrorism offences in order to set a precedent that taking direct action to stop a UK-backed genocide will not be tolerated.
