The life style we imagine as profs no longer exists 🤷♀️. Mentors should put more effort into mitigating career expectations for their students and postdocs and prepare them for jobs outside of academia.

I congratulate Claudia Goldin on receiving the Nobel Prize for her extraordinary work on the historical trends in gender equality. While the conversation has started, we have a long way to go to eliminate the gender pay gap. 👏

Historically, much of the gender gap in earnings could be explained by differences in education and occupational choices. However, this year’s economic sciences laureate Claudia Goldin has shown that the bulk of this earnings difference is now between men and women in the same occupation, and that it largely arises with the birth of the first child.

It is unnacceptable that manufacture of life saving treatments for rare disorders are discontinued due to small market size. Creative solutions are needed to keep these and future therapies available to aĺl who need them.
