Why is the NIH an incredible engine for scientific progress and U.S. biomedical leadership? $1 NIH spends--> $2.5 economic activity. Check out this fact sheet for more info: actfornih.org/wp-content/upl… 🧵 1/4

Yes. Nanopublications ftw
Replying to @MicrobiomDigest
I have been advocating a different way of doing science: publishing one figure at the time, and have other people critique and reproduce it. From there, build stories.

I've been saying for the past 10y that I want a server (such as a preprint server) where people upload one exp. After iterations across labs, a "paper" is written by someone who was not part of the execution. But how would we distribute Nobel prizes like that?

@Ying_Xie_ found that polysome collapse and subsequent mRNA condensation leads to fluidization of the cytoplasm. This helps Q-body stress organelles to assemble. With @ProfGresham, @Tiewei_Liu Could be a new function for P-bodies and stress granules!

A cool profile of me in @CurrentBiology sciencedirect.com/science/ar… tl;dr: I describe one of my central beliefs – the importance of taking breaks from the lab to allow for creative scientific thought.

Incredibly grateful to the @Hypothesisfund for giving us this support! And thank you to the fund and @HarmitMalik for being such strong advocates for fundamental research. It is more important than ever to invest in discovery. We are excited to have this chance.

3/ We're excited to support @liamholtlab on a new research direction to investigate how viruses survive & replicate by manipulating biophysical properties of cells. Cheers to this creative researcher for "going viral"😉. Congrats Dr. Holt! @nyugrossman 🙏 #HFScout @HarmitMalik

🚨New lab preprint: "We therefore propose a model for cytoskeletal evolution in which pools of microtubule network components constrain and guide the diversification of the entire network, so that the evolution of tubulin is inextricably linked to that of its binding partners."

Congratulations! Amazing work!
🎉It's finally out!! We show that intramolecular interactions in IDPs are strong enough to hold in the cell, but flexible enough to respond to cellular volume changes. A labor of love of many people, mainly recent graduate @david_c_moses and @the_KarinaG. shorturl.at/cdyR2

Fantastic!
Finally out! We found that mRNAs are not uniformly distributed across the cytoplasm. mRNA architecture is the strongest determinant for localization. Subcytoplasmic location of translation controls protein output. cell.com/molecular-cell/full…
