CPKC today mourns the passing of William W. “Bill” Stinson, former chairman and chief executive officer of Canadian Pacific Limited.
Mr. Stinson passed away in Vancouver, B.C. on Friday, May 1, 2026 at the age of 92.
“It is with great sadness that we learned of the death of William W. Stinson,” said Keith Creel, CPKC President & CEO. “Our railroaders, past and present, extend our sincere condolences to Bill’s family and friends. A fourth-generation railroader and highly regarded Canadian business leader, Bill made many important contributions to our railway, the history of our company, and this nation. Bill will be deeply missed."
Mr. Stinson first joined Canadian Pacific Railway at age 16, launching a more than four-decade career. He was appointed President and CEO of Canadian Pacific Limited in May 1985. He became Chairman, President, and CEO in 1988 serving until he retired in 1996.
CPKC honoured Mr. Stinson’s passing by lowering flags at company facilities across Canada.
In recognition of his service and enduring connection to the railway, CPKC recently renamed a location on its MacTier Subdivision in the Greater Toronto Area as Stinson.
