The government's job should be facilitating innovation—not take ownership stakes in it. Washington shouldn't be a venture capitalist, and it certainly shouldn't be picking winners and losers in AI.
President Trump says he’s exploring ways to give the public a stake in leading AI companies. The plan remains vague, but experts say if and how it develops could have massive consequences. Here are a few forms the plan could take: wapo.st/4orDOi8

The biggest legacy of KOSA won't be safer kids online. It will be a larger system for verifying identities and collecting personal information across the internet.
🚨The US Senate is reportedly negotiating with the White House to get KOSA in exchange for AI preemption. KOSA is widely supported by lawmakers on both sides of the aisle, as well as many "conservative" organizations, think tanks, and parental rights groups. But KOSA doesn't protect children, it instead mandates data collection on every minor user. 🧵

KOSA may have (misguided) support in the Senate but there is hardly consensus in the House where many lawmakers recognize its constitutional challenges, policy omissions and overall ineffectuality at preventing harm.
Replying to @CLADIESAMERICA
THE BOTTOM LINE ⬇️ KOSA doesn't deliver the protection parents are promised. Instead it builds a compliance machine on your child's behavioral data and hands it to unvetted third parties with no security floor. 🔗Learn more here: conservativeladiesofamerica.…

When government officials pressure platforms to suppress speech, Americans deserve transparency and accountability. That's why TPA supports the JAWBONE Act.

Illinois' social media tax was a bad idea from the start. Its rollout has only made things worse.

.@RandPaul is right. The fiscal outlook isn't getting better, it's getting worse. The latest Social Security and Medicare trustees reports made that abundantly clear.
This is concerning. We need to stop borrowing against our children and grandchildren’s future and start balancing the budget. cryptobriefing.com/us-nation…

Amazon said its data centers used 2.5 billion gallons of water worldwide last year, or about 5% of the amount metro Seattle consumes annually

Baltimore taxpayers deserve answers. TPA's @davidbmcgarry raises concerns about @MayorBMScott's proposal to spend millions on a program operated in partnership with a nonprofit that has faced repeated audit concerns. Accountability and transparency should come first.

KOSA is sold as a way to protect kids online. But protecting kids starts with stopping predators—not burdening free speech and creating new risks for law-abiding users. Kids deserve real solutions. Parents deserve real tools. Congress should reject KOSA.

Alongside @NTU & @Protectaxpayers, TCS urged lawmakers to reduce the Pentagon's topline & oppose the NDAA if it wasn’t lowered. Giving an extra $500 billion to the only federal agency that’s never passed an audit isn’t our idea of fiscal responsibility. taxpayer.net/national-securi…

🚨BREAKING: TPA applauds Sens. @tedcruz and @RonWyden for introducing the JAWBONE Act.👏 Government officials should never be able to pressure tech platforms to silence Americans behind closed doors. Read @davidbmcgarry's full statement below.👇

Taxpayer Watchdog Praises Bill to Protect Americans’ Free Speech WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) introduced the Justice Against Weaponized Bureaucratic Overreach to Networked Expression Act (JAWBONE) Act, which would provide recourse to Americans whose speech against government officials have attempted to suppress. The bill would create a cause of action when government officials pressure social media, artificial intelligence, and broadcasting companies on speech issues and require public disclosures of many communications with such companies. In response to the JAWBONE Act’s introduction, David B. McGarry, Research Director of the Taxpayers Protection Alliance, offered the following statement: “Free speech has met a new threat in the 21st century, in which government officials can remove Americans’ ability to speak out of sight, quietly and behind closed doors, with a phone call or email. A few directives or requests could result in Americans silenced. This state of affairs, clearly, is untenable in a nation founded upon free speech. “The JAWBONE Act represents the best of the legislative process. Sens. Cruz and Wyden saw a problem unaddressed by current law, one which the judiciary had not resolved, one which required a legislative remedy. So, they acted, providing new, badly needed standards to protect the spirit of the First Amendment.”
