Why has job creation and industrial investment stayed concentrated around Bengaluru while North Karnataka continues to lag behind?
I explain how historical administrative divisions under colonial rule shaped today’s regional imbalance. Development followed centres of power, while vast regions remained distant from decision making and investment.
Even today, major projects often bypass North Karnataka, deepening economic and employment gaps. If Karnataka truly aims for inclusive growth, correcting this imbalance must become a priority.

All this is concerning now because there is no plan for decentralised growth.
There are no other cities like Pune, Nashik, Nagpur, Thane in Karnataka. If only there were other cities to take this burden? but there is no plan to provide development to Belagavi, Hubballi, Raichur.

Bengaluru | On Bidadi township project, Karnataka CM DK Shivakumar says, "I don’t want to give answer to anyone. Now, Maharashtra is acquiring 80,000 acres to develop a new township. Telangana is developing a new township on 40,000 acres. This is not a township conceived by me. It was originally notified by Kumaraswamy. Earlier, during the BJP government, around 1,000 acres were acquired and later handed over to KIADB. Who developed the Bidadi Township? Who developed the Bidadi Industrial Township? Who developed the Harohalli Industrial Township? Did the farmers disappear because of those projects? Now, the farmers have agreed. If anyone wants to play politics over the issue, they are free to do so."

Just a few months ago, Karnataka Govt's HM got BMRCL to spend a few crores to propose a Bengaluru to Tumakaru metro.
