Emergency Trip Stations are located every 800’ along the right of way (trackside) to bring down third rail power in an emergency.

No Passenger Bus 5465 reported smoke onboard at 6:45PM

Emergency crews are responding to a Metro Bus fire inside the 9th St tunnel in Downtown DC. No customers were on board at the time, and the operator was not injured. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and @dcfireems is working to extinguish the flames.

NTSB investigators arrived on scene at Metro Center starting just after 2 a.m. to begin documenting the crash scene and collecting perishable evidence. This is the first step in our investigation, and it is too early to determine a probable cause or rule things out. Updates on the investigation will come from the NTSB.

This report of smoke occurred at 12:28P & was the result of a set of burning brakes on car 7428, one of the cars involved in the Metro Center collision overnight and was in the process of being towed to a rail yard. The rail car mechanic aboard was able to extinguished the fire

Our preliminary indications show the work unit (PM64) operated past it authorized limits of Farragut West. Poor radio performance is a factor in limiting our data. Also work units do NOT have ATP (Automatic Train Protection) that prevents collisions.
