Me via @TheHillOpinion: “An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind, but a map for a map makes the whole country more divided. It is time to stop treating redistricting as a zero-sum arms race and start getting serious about reforming the process” thehill.com/opinion/campaign…

🗺️ How much does redistricting matter? A lot. Using 2024 presidential vote shares, we mapped congressional districts under three different maps: 📍 2022 lines: Dem 207 – Rep 228 📍 2024 redraws (AL, GA, LA, NC, NY): Dem 205 – Rep 230 📍 2026 redraws (AL, CA, FL, LA, MO, NC, OH, TN, TX, UT): Dem 200 – Rep 235 The 2026 maps alone shift 5 seats from Dem to Rep — before a single vote is cast. States with new districts are outlined in black. Data: @davesredist , @downballotnews , @vest_team | 2024 Presidential Election results

“Often they have opposition parties strong enough to keep ruling parties nervous and effective.” Competition among political parties is healthy & improves quality of life, but gerrymandering eliminates this competition. Time to focus on eliminating it for better quality of life.
A major new study published today by a panel of Democrats and Republicans ranks states by quality of life. The states at the top aren't the richest, and they don't have the highest tax rates -- although they do seem to do an unusually good job executing policy and sharing the wealth that they create. Often they have opposition parties strong enough to keep ruling parties nervous and effective. To see which state ranks No. 1 and how your state ranks (slight tease!), here's a gift link: nytimes.com/2026/06/06/opini…

Amen: "A functional Congress is essential to a functioning American constitutionalism, and congressional dysfunction is at the heart of our system’s broader problems now." Let's stop gerrymandering and uncap the House! thedispatch.com/next-250/ame…

And the servers’ sections are all convoluted shapes, so it takes a minimum of 20 mins to get their attention at all times.
A pop-up bar called 'Gerrymanders' and it would be two blocks from the U.S. Capitol

Modern politics wants us to believe that a leader's character is secondary to their policy wins. But a republic built without integrity is a structure built to fracture. We must demand leaders w/the moral conviction to uphold our values. It starts with who we choose to trust. #principlesfirst

Props to @politico for using “a new gerrymander” here. Calls out that the old map was also a gerrymander and that this current map isn’t being drawn in good faith. Too many media orgs use the neutral “redistricting” in headlines when most of what we’re seeing is gerrymandering.
BREAKING: Louisiana Republicans passed a new gerrymander that will eliminate one of the state’s two Democratic, majority-Black House districts ahead of the midterms. politico.com/news/2026/05/29…

"Regardless of the outcome in Nov, the mid-decade redistricting battle has likely altered American politics permanently–fueling a growing appetite to redraw lines for partisan advantage every election cycle, rather than every decade after the census" cnn.com/2026/05/28/politics/…

Honorable mention from @_justinlevitt_ : “The Supreme Court has effectively announced that the adults have left the room,” he said. “What you see is what you get when you reward bad behavior, which is a lot more bad behavior.”

First step to solving a problem is admitting there is one. #DrawTheLineInOhio #Gerrymandering
Today, the Problem Solvers Caucus announced the formation of a bipartisan working group focused on addressing extreme partisan gerrymandering across the country. The creation of this working group comes at a time when Americans across the political spectrum are increasingly frustrated with a system in which politicians choose their voters instead of voters choosing their representatives. We believe bipartisan reforms are needed to restore competitiveness, fairness, and accountability to the democratic process.

“All this just further alienates Americans from democracy and makes them feel even more that the process is rigged and manipulated."
Extreme gerrymanders could soon be even more extreme. The potential result? A congressional map that looks more like a presidential map. That could increase the chances for minority rule and further divide an already polarized country. wapo.st/4tZ93SF

When politicians choose their voters, democracy loses. Gerrymandering and closed primaries are pushing politics to the extremes, shutting independent voters out, and making Congress less accountable to the people it serves. As I told The Atlantic, when both parties keep changing the rules to protect their own power, the American people lose. It is a race to the bottom, and needs to stop. As part of my broader reform initiatives, I’ve introduced legislation to end partisan map-rigging and restore accountability to our political system. Fair maps. Open participation. A government that answers to the people. That should not be controversial—and every elected official, at every level of government, should be able to agree with it without hesitation. 🔗: theatlantic.com/politics/202…

We can be more judgmental here: Republican mid-decade gerrymandering has eliminated the unbiased House of 2022-2024 and replaced it with a chamber significantly skewed in favor of Republicans. From a democratic perspective, this is something to condemn, not celebrate.
NEW: Here's a different way of visualizing the House battleground & the impact of redistricting. Republicans have shifted the tipping point seat 9 points right. Just beyond that, Dems have few opportunities. claude.ai/public/artifacts/5…
