These past three days have felt surreal. Just two years ago, we launched Rwanda’s medical oncology fellowship program, and today, three of our inaugural fellows defended their theses, the final step before graduation. They will become the first medical oncologists to be trained locally in Rwanda, marking a historic moment for cancer care in our country. They join a small but growing national oncology workforce of 13 clinical oncologists, 4 medical oncologists, and 1 pediatric oncologist. This achievement reflects vision, trust, hard work, and the belief that Rwanda can train its own specialists to an international standard. It is a proud moment, not only for the fellows, but for the future of cancer care in Rwanda.
