We could’ve gotten the ball rolling on this in February when my bill (H 4717) received a hearing. We could’ve started this process 2 days earlier after Calais, but House leadership demanded a new bill be filed, not mine.

I was browsing through some of our budget allocations and saw that the taxpayers of SC gave $4,500 to this Artists Residency--which is now moving to Mexico. Their website is fun reading. southporchartists.org/ "It's not much money," they'll say. Sure, but it's a lot to a family trying to give their child a great education. There are 8031 families on the waiting list for SC Education Scholarships.

Now I get how the Freedom Caucus feels — being out front on an issue, getting told it’s a waste of time, only for the Overton window to shift a few months later and suddenly all Republicans are on board. Loved seeing the same people at today’s Senate Judiciary hearing within the party apparatus who told me back in February that pushing redistricting was a waste of time. We forgive ya’ll but damn maybe remember this the next time.
