#OnThisDay June 11 1899: During the height of the bicycle boom, when tens of thousands of residents held permits to ride, St. Paul Police form a dedicated bicycle squad of 12 officers to catch "scorchers." Speed limits are set at 6 mph on sidewalks and 8 mph on streets.
