Deepwater sharks and rays make up half the global shark and ray diversity but have been largely left in the dark for shark and ray conservation. #SharksintheDark #GlobalSharkTrends bit.ly/SharksInTheDark science.org/doi/10.1126/scie…

It's not just modern #shark teeth we've been finding on our expedition, but #fossil ones too!
🦈🦷 @DanielMMoore_ with shark tooth at least 3M yrs old from the Bounty Trough, extinct from climate change. 🌊 A vivid reminder of the transformations our oceans face today, and why we're on a mission to discover life before it's too late. #TheNipponFoundation #OceanCensus

Such sad news - John was a great voice in the community & he will be missed. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
It is with great sadness that we write to inform you that John Hourston, the founder of the Blue Planet Society, has passed away after a short battle with cancer. For two decades John worked tirelessly to highlight the injustices faced by all ocean life. It started with just him and his laptop and from there he built an incredible community that had real impact. He worked tirelessly and revolutionised activism online without any need for personal recognition. His campaigns were passionate and persistent and they got results. John literally did not stop until his final day. We are devastated but we will ensure that his vision will continue. Our thoughts and hearts are with his family. With love, Lloyd, Deborah, Lewis and Richard.

The mighty fin whale 🐋 The second largest, and the fastest whale on the planet. I’ve had this shot in my head for 3 years, with the dolphins bow riding in front, so getting this on Wednesday was incredible. Even more so, it was filmed here in the Celtic Sea. @DJIGlobal
