“Did you know that the ruling Qatari royal family’s foundation ran a multi-million dollar influence campaign in U.S. K-12 public schools?” Great work by @SimoneJWei and @NomiFried@FDD!
Did you know that the ruling Qatari royal family’s foundation ran a multi-million dollar influence campaign in U.S. K-12 public schools? We @FDD collected over $9 million in Qatari contracts across major school districts. And reviewed thousands of pages of teaching materials.
What did we find?

Qatar is infiltrating public U.S. K12 schools to introduce highly politicized, anti-Western curriculum. Proud of @SimoneJWei and our @FDD ed team for shining light on this! washingtontimes.com/news/202…
WATCH: How I used local public records laws to collect millions of dollars worth of funding contracts, teaching materials and emails in U.S K-12 public school districts, funded by the Qatari ruling royal family’s foundation, @QFIntl , which said Monday is winding down.
1/4 Qatar Foundation International has poured millions of dollars into U.S. K-12 public schools over the past 17 years.
@FDD’s Education and Nat Sec. team spent months examining $9M in Qatari contracts to schools and teachers — plus thousands of pages of teaching materials.
Here's what we found. 🧵
3/4 In @PPSConnect, QFI-funded programs in Portland included anti-Israel lessons and lectures on "resistance" — going back to 2014.
At the 2025 Lincoln High School Arabic Culture Night, where students thanked the Qatar Foundation, posters displayed a map of Israel labeled “Palestine” and featured imagery that glorified violent resistance.
4/ 4 Foreign influence needs to stop permeating American K-12 education, gaining access to our children and shaping their worldviews for years to come.

After @MikaHackner broke the news via posting an internal memo that @QFIntl announced it was winding down operations. QFI - the foundation tied to the Qatari ruling royal family - took down parts of its website, including the grants page.
As I reported with @FDD, QFI was paying the salaries of U.S. K-12 public school teachers via these grants.
What happens this morning when you Google QFI Grants ⬇️
Curious as to why? 🤔
1/ I spent over a year documenting Qatar's financial footprint in the United States.
The number I found? $400 billion. That's roughly $1.2 million per Qatari citizen.
Here's what you should know. 🧵

Qatar has spent at least $400 billion in the U.S. since 2000 — roughly $1.2 million per Qatari citizen. @NatalieEcanow spent more than a year tracking Qatari spending in the U.S.
Her new memo maps the full picture and begs the question of when foreign investment becomes foreign influence: bit.ly/4oa6Brh
Well this interesting.
Qatar Foundation International "to wind down operations." Existing programs will "conclude" or "evolve" under the control of "local institutions."
