The Danielle Smith Legislative Ledger – “The Wrecking Ball” Part 2 – Who Wants A Notwithstanding Clause? I’m baaaack. Last time we mapped the pattern. This time we follow where it leads. Fall 2025. The hammer dropped, and a government tested how far power can stretch. #ableg
The final days of the Alberta Legislature’s Spring 2025 session pissed me off. I rolled up my sleeves right after and started a research project. I present to you all an #ableg 🧵: Danielle Smith’s Legislative Wrecking Ball: Part One

Holy fuck, I can't believe how stupid people have become.

We have details of just how bad a deal the privatization scheme Stephen Harper forced on Edmonton is. The private contractor is charging us so much that in just two years of running it ourselves we can pay the entire 30-year termination fee. The waste is absurd.

Hey Rob, remind me where Danielle Smith worked from 1999 to 2009 and 2015 to 2021.
Dreams do come true Sean! It just shows if you dedicate every day in your media career inventing creative anti-UCP narratives and torquing stories, the Alberta NDP will find a way to repay your loyalty. We knew you’d get there one day big guy. Congrats! @CityNewsYEG

Temu Brian Bateson (Calgary "journalist" who is now a BC political party comms director) has shit to say.
Sean Amato who was a reporter for CTV News and City News is now the Comms Director for the Alberta NDP. 5 seconds ago he was a "neutral reporter" and if you didn't like his obvious NDP spin then you were just a dumb partisan Conservative who cannot stand objective journalism! No way the legacy media companies he worked for didn't know he was an NDP partisan and framed his reports to do maximum damage to Conservatives. The legacy media is full of people like Sean Amato. Viewers are being manipulated by people like Sean, Evan Solomon and others who after leaving their neutral media jobs immediately join Left-wing parties they totally were not flak-catching for when creating the news.

Bad day for those of us who relied on clear Alberta political coverage. Very good day for the Alberta NDP. Congratulations, Sean. They’re lucky to have you. #ableg
Very excited to announce I’m joining the Alberta NDP Caucus as Director of Communications. These are pivotal times for the province I was born & raised in, and Albertans deserve a good, honest, pro-Canada government.

It isn't different. The flag changed. The grievance didn't. This is the same 25-30% who would argue the sky isn't blue enough and water isn't wet in the correct jurisdiction. You can't govern a country by handing the thermostat to the person determined to make a room miserable.
How is this any different from the “Canada is broken” message that was predictable (and spectacular) failure during last year’s federal election… You know, the one where he blew a 20-pt lead? This is a moment that calls for a lot more than sounding petty, repetitive and small

BIG LIE #3: “Carney wants to leave half our oil in the ground.” NOPE It was a global finance warning (2021) about stranded assets if countries meet Paris/net-zero targets He meant markets may change….not Ottawa will shut Alberta down Pierre twisted it into a separatist myth

There’s a difference between listening to someone who feels cold and letting them crank the thermostat until everyone in the room is miserable. Poilievre is pretending that 2nd part is unity. It isn’t. It’s enabling the loudest person in the room and calling it statesmanship.
"Demoinzing people who have lost hope in Canada is no way to restore it." Poilievre says we should listen and address the easily solvable problems of separatists. He says the goal is to not beat each other in this referendum, but to unite us all after it is done.

It’s weird how the UCP thinks competition is so great for public services but also made it illegal for another political party to use the word “conservative” in their name. 🤔 #ableg #abpoli
Today Lagrange explained "in plain terms" that the UCP's funding announcement is, in effect, a way to introduce competition into public healthcare... Because Hospitals are lazy otherwise. #abpoli #ableg #cdnpoli

Amazing 🧵. Thank you, Shannon.
What we have here is what media observers in the States have dubbed “Murc’s Law,” whereby progressives are cast as the only actors with agency and conservatives are forced to do things and are otherwise passive recipients of events. This way, bad behaviour by conservatives is…🧵

I’ve been trying to have more five-minute, face-to-face conversations with people who see Alberta separation differently than I do. Not internet fights. Not comment-section nonsense. Just actual conversations with actual people. #ableg 1/

I’m glad these conversations can still happen respectfully. We need more of that. But we also need people to understand what they are signing, what they are supporting, and who is standing behind the curtain selling them the dream. 12/

Anger at Ottawa might explain the frustration. It does not make separation a plan. And it definitely does not make annexation a rescue mission. #ableg Fin/
