I sent this email to @bariweiss four years ago, when I was 19 years old. It was the best decision I've ever made. I have never been more proud or grateful to be part of @TheFP.

The end game for this level of optimization psychosis is removing all stress and friction from our lives. But the things that give us cortisol spikes are the things that give us meaning. Please flush your Whoops down the toilet <3
i hooked my whoop to my work calendar to find which coworker gives me the most stress 🚨 thanks to fable, I reverse engineered whoop to pull per minute heart rate. nd matched spikes with cal events and attendees I now have a leaderboard and I think about it daily. few info masked for obvious reasons ;)

This is the heart of the problem. You can’t reason with people or even attempt to build trust in institutions again when journalists like Pelley are completely untethered from reality.
Scott Pelley says Bari Weiss asked 60 Minutes staffers: “Why do you think the country thinks you’re biased?" Pelley: "Why do you think so? Do you have a poll? Is there market research? What are you talking about?" "Because we certainly didn't believe that." Incredible.

An interesting detail from my story on @CLT_Exam: The State Department is recruiting from the top 10% of scorers to be Foreign Service Officers. The longer-term goal is having CLT help redesign the FSO exam itself. “They’re just trying to bring people into the foreign service who actually are patriotic. The rest of the world has a skewed view of America because of the type of people we’ve put in the State Department, and we’re trying to fix that as quickly as possible.” thefp.com/p/the-sat-is-back-…

Reinstating the SAT is not the same thing as raising educational standards. Standards should pull students upward, not bend to meet them on the way down. The test has spent 60 years meeting students where they are — its reading passages have shrunk from 750 words to 25. Bringing it back doesn't fix that. There's a better option. thefp.com/p/the-sat-is-back-…

A few things that stood out to me when reporting this story: - The conditions that led to this 14 year olds radicalization to Islamic extremism are not unique: he was isolated in the pandemic, looking for belonging, and spending a lot of time online. - His parents did everything right. They routinely swept his devices, took him to church, had family dinners every night, instilled good values. It wasn't enough to protect him from jihadists on the internet who were preying on their son. As the boys mother told me: "Isis and al-Qaeda are targeting our kids. We want parents to be aware that this problem is real and that it exists. There are people that are coming for your children." thefp.com/p/teenage-terror-s…
