NHC ups the chance of development to 60% as of this afternoon. Very rare for a system to develop in the deep tropics in June, but water temperatures are equal to peak (September) season already. Odds are it will recurve out to sea but too early to be sure. Stay tuned!

Climate Crisis: We just finished hitting (week ending June 9) a new record high for atmospheric CO2 at 424.64 PPM located at NOAA’s Mauna Loa Atmospheric Baseline Observatory. Now we need both critical mitigation and adaptation to deal with climate change.

Quite a few meteorologists in disbelief at the pattern across the US. Strong subtropical jet stream feeding widespread severe weather in the south. A winter El Nino pattern in summer. A polar jet extension in the Ohio Valley too with incredible high-latitude blocking. 1/
