Suicide is in the news again after the recent death of a celebrity. & there are many ppl begging those who are struggling to "reach out" & "get help". While those sentiments are well-intentioned, they aren't always helpful. So, I give to you: Helping a suicidal loved one - a 🧵

Here's @fordnation's AG, using people w/ disabilities as props in his photo op. We know his government doesn't give a s*** about them. 33% of single PWD in ON live in poverty. And 20 000 disabled kids can't attend school full time b/c his government won't properly fund education.
It was great to connect with @EmpowerSimcoe & learn more about their work to strengthen communities. From breaking down barriers to supporting employment, Community Living Ontario works alongside 125 local agencies to provide supports for people with disabilities.

It was brief, but today's episode of The Pitt showed important, but rarely acknowledged, truths about suicidality. 1. Even smart, accomplished ppl can struggle w/ suicidal ideation. 2. Suicide is OFTEN not about wanting to die, but being unable to see oneself continuing to live.

This guy needs to hire two outsiders to tell him why test scores are down, when teachers have been screaming at the top of their lungs what is needed - smaller classes, more support staff, more resources! This government is absolutely inept. ctvnews.ca/toronto/politics/…

In @fordnation's ON, people DIE waiting for healthcare. "ON recorded the highest number of wait-list deaths: 10,634, including > 9,100 diagnostic-scan deaths where pts died before reaching the point of receiving or being scheduled for surgery." ctvnews.ca/health/article/mo…

Remember this the next time you hear any @fordnation MPPs bragging about "historic investments" in education.
This is why we can’t have nice things. #OntEd

Starting today, a proven method of reducing traffic speeds will be outlawed. Why? Who knows. My guess is that one of the Premier's buddies got caught a few times & doesn't like paying fines. (P.S. It's not a "cash-grab" if you obey the speed limit. šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø) sickkids.ca/en/news/archive/…

Starting today, cash-grab municipal speed cameras are no longer allowed in Ontario. Instead, we’re supporting proactive, proven safety measures like speed bumps, roundabouts and better signage that slow drivers down without making life more expensive.

So extraordinarily disappointed to see @berryonline standing with @fordnation, ignoring the evidence that speed cameras slow traffic & lower speed means fewer fatalities. Speed cameras aren't a cash grab if you don't speed! sickkids.ca/en/news/archive/… #RegionOfWaterloo

"Settlers killed off huge numbers of people in conflicts & also by spreading disease, which reduced the indigenous population by 90% in the century following Christopher Columbus’s initial journey to the Americas & Caribbean in 1492." And maybe review who built the railroad. šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø
Replying to @selamdebs
Or instead, we can teach our children about the heroic explorers and the hard-working settlers who cleared the land, built a nation connected by a railroad, and who assimilated the primitive peoples, giving them better longer lives.

Why would school boards be struggling financially, @PaulCalandra ? Would it be because "The inflation-adjusted funding shortfall between the 2018-19 and 2024-25 school years is nowĀ $1,500 per student"? Does that maybe have something to do with it? policyalternatives.ca/news-r…
Our government is taking decisive and necessary action to ensure our education system remains focused on what matters most: helping students succeed. We’re appointing supervisors to four more boards to get them back on track.

Just a reminder that @fordnation has decimated healthcare (including mental health & addictions programs), while vastly increasing the availability of alcohol. This is not an individual problem. It's societal.

Remember, this is one of the "journalists" granted access to the English Leaders Debate. Ask yourself - what would the reaction be if the president of Global or CTV was telling people to NOT vote. šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø
There is no way that Canada 2025 will look like USA 2016. Things are so safe for Mark Carney that it's probably fine if most Liberal voters honestly just stay home on Monday.

I applaud the members of the Guelph Accessibility Advisory Committee. These committees are often set up to give the appearance of listening to PWD, nothing more. Thank you for calling out the City of Guelph for doing exactly that. ctvnews.ca/kitchener/guelph/…

I sincerely hope that the next federal government takes advantage of the situation in the U.S. & increases funding for research & post-secondary education. This is a rare opportunity & we can reverse the "brain drain" Canada has experienced over the last few decades.
"… universities must take decisive steps now—diversifying funding sources, strengthening private-sector collaborations, and engaging in policy dialogue—to preserve an ecosystem that has shaped the world in revolutionary ways," write Stefan Raff-Heinen and Fiona E. Murray in a new #ScienceEditorial. scim.ag/4hYUdWo

A Canadian journalist, doing, you know, journalism, gets trolled by right-wingers. And instead of standing up to the bullying & harassment, @CTVNews cancels her segment about the upcoming election on @YourMorning. An absolutely spineless & shameful move. vm.tiktok.com/ZMBmb5A1H/

Nothing to see here, folks! Just a *university professor* spreading misinformation. Totally acceptable stuff. šŸ™ƒ
Mark Carney has been crowned Leader of the Liberal Party and is set to become the first Prime Minister to have never been elected to any public office. Congratulations. But an election is necessary to establish a legitimate cabinet and to navigate the challenges ahead.

A very interesting examination of the links between Musk, Trump & Russia.
(šŸ“¢) NATSEC COMMUNITY NOTE: Musk is confessing to beginning to blame Ukraine for a war Putin started—thus working to aid Putin—at exactly the moment he began having clandestine business and geopolitical negotiations with Putin. He should be arrested. šŸ”—: wsj.com/world/russia/musk-pu…

UK PM Starmer was asked about Trump's threats to annex Canada: "I think you're trying to find a divide between us [UK & US] that doesn't exist. We're the closest of nations." The UK couldn't stand up to Trump for a Commonwealth country. How absolutely demoralizing.
