Today was my first day back with students & my first day implementing strategies I lived by this summer with @UpperlineCode. Can I tell you, today was my best first day of teaching in my 11 years as a teacher. See thread for some strategies that made it great.

"There are so many people that are not invited into this space, that don’t see people that look like them in this space and so, being able to teach this, specifically at my school, is incredibly important to me and why I’m pushing for a CS track" - Maha Hasen #edtech

In 2020, an est. one million computer-programming related jobs went unfilled. Early-stage technical talent development is the key to closing this gap. Help us train the next generation of diverse computer science leaders by referring Upperline Code today. partners.upperlinecode.com/r…
"If we create welcoming and inclusive spaces for students while they are studying computer science, but then see them transition to workplaces that are still filled with gatekeepers - we’ve only done half the work." blog.upperlinecode.com/build… #technology #DiversityandInclusion
Tech companies have long cited the 'pipeline problem' for their lack of #diversity when, in truth, there is talent everywhere. We believe that investing in opportunities for historically marginalized groups, where they are, will transform the #pipeline. partners.upperlinecode.com/r…

[1/5] Women are #computerscience pioneers. "When Wilkes talks to today’s young coders, they are often shocked to learn that women were among the field’s earliest, towering innovators and once a common sight in corporate America. “Their mouths are agape,” Wilkes says.

[4/5] ...which parents tended to purchase for their sons, gave male students a head start in their CS courses. Rampant sexism, both in the classroom & workplace, forced many women out of the field completely. By 2010, only 18% of students graduating with a CS degree were women.

[5/5] ...Luckily those numbers are on the rise but not by nearly enough - in 2020, only 1 in 5 CS graduates were women. Celebrate Women's History Month by investing in early opportunities for women to learn #code and transform the next generation of CS leaders.
