91 years ago today, a small group of conservationists gathered around a radical idea: protecting wild places for their own sake. Since 1935, The Wilderness Society has been a national conservation organization dedicated to protecting America’s wild places.

Through science, advocacy, and partnerships with communities and policymakers, we champion the protection of wilderness, national parks, forests, and other public lands that provide clean air and water, wildlife habitat, and the freedom to connect with nature.

What gives me hope is the breadth of the coalition that came together last year to stop the public lands sell-off. People across the spectrum came together and stepped up.

Trump just trying to revoke a decade-old rule that protected tens of millions of acres of national forest land –– leaving California’s precious public lands vulnerable to unrestricted logging and construction.    We’re fighting back.

The Trump Admin’s decision to undo the Roadless Rule after 25 years undermines critical protections for our public lands. I’ve fought for the Roadless Area Conservation Act to protect Oregon’s natural beauty—this Admin is taking us backward!

People across the West cherish our public lands. For 25 years, the Roadless Rule has protected millions of acres of our forests. In the face of Trump’s efforts to repeal this rule and sell our public lands, we’ll always keep fighting to protect these lands for future generations.

25 years ago today, the Roadless Rule was created to protect millions of acres against clear-cutting and roadbuilding. Now the Trump administration is trying to dismantle it. @forestservice and @USDA should listen to the hundreds of thousands calling to leave this rule in place to preserve public lands for wildlife and future generations. environmentamerica.org/artic…

America’s Roadless Rule turns 25 today. For a quarter of a century, this effective & widely supported conservation policy has served the American people by protecting 58 million acres of pristine national forestland. We must allow these forests to remain wild and free.

Chaco Canyon is sacred ground. When President Biden protected the Greater Chaco Landscape, it was a historic step that honored tribal voices and safeguarded thousands of irreplaceable cultural sites. Efforts now underway to roll back protections threaten irreplaceable history. We must continue protecting #ChacoCanyon and stand with tribal leaders calling for its preservation.

Thank you, Senator Hickenlooper, for your leadership!
Americans need a real steward for our public lands. Steve Pearce, Trump’s pick to lead the BLM, isn’t one. He opposed environmental protections and pushed to sell public lands when he was in Congress. Our public lands are NEVER for sale. I'm a NO on his nomination.

So important that we're connected to the people & places we're fighting for in Washington. I was able to join Friends of Browns Canyon and @wilderness who are working with me to make sure we're bringing additional protections for Browns Canyon. This place contributes millions to our local economy & it's critical that we protect it for generations to come.

The president approved a 211-mile private industrial mining road for a foreign mining company - backed by millions in U.S. taxpayer dollars - cutting through one of Alaska's most pristine landscapes. Alaska Native governments & locals have said no to Ambler Road — and so do we.

Thank you Senator for standing up for our public lands!
I'm on the Senate floor now urging my colleagues to vote NO on resolutions that would erase years of local input, threaten our public lands, and create chaos for communities and businesses nationwide. Full speech: youtu.be/3ia9OKSK2Ms x.com/i/broadcasts/1MnGnPjLy…

For Tony Bynum, America's public lands are a way of life. While this video was filmed in 2016, public lands continue to face increasing risks from sell-offs and industrial development, which could limit access and harm the natural and cultural treasures we all share.

Chaco Canyon is a living landscape — a sacred homeland still tied to the ceremonial and religious lives of Indigenous communities today. That’s why I introduced the Chaco Cultural Heritage Area Protection Act, which would permanently protect this sacred place by withdrawing federal lands around Chaco from new oil and gas leasing while safeguarding Navajo and tribal mineral rights.

🚨 Happening NOW 🚨 I’m standing with Pueblo Governors, Senator Heinrich, and Congresswoman Stansbury at the U.S. Capitol to demand that Congress and the Trump administration protect Greater Chaco Canyon from oil and gas drilling. For generations, Chaco has been a sacred place of memory, culture, and resilience. We must honor and protect it for our children and all future generations. 📍 Watch live here: facebook.com/share/v/15zbtqS…
