So anyway here's a 7-year-old reddit post with 12 upvotes about higher order moments of statistical distributions that's actually really insightful, even for kurtosis.

Umberto Eco, who owned 50,000 books, had this to say about home libraries: "It is foolish to think that you have to read all the books you buy, as it is foolish to criticize those who buy more books than they will ever be able to read. It would be like saying that you should use all the cutlery or glasses or screwdrivers or drill bits you bought before buying new ones. "There are things in life that we need to always have plenty of supplies, even if we will only use a small portion. "If, for example, we consider books as medicine, we understand that it is good to have many at home rather than a few: when you want to feel better, then you go to the 'medicine closet' and choose a book. Not a random one, but the right book for that moment. That's why you should always have a nutrition choice! "Those who buy only one book, read only that one and then get rid of it. They simply apply the consumer mentality to books, that is, they consider them a consumer product, a good. Those who love books know that a book is anything but a commodity."

Parking mandates force wasteful land use, kill small businesses, and fuel the housing crisis at an average cost of $40,000 per space. The People Over Parking Act poises Minnesota to be the first state in the US to deregulate parking statewide.

People will choose to live a mile back into a one-way in one-way out subdivision in a cul-de-sac 40 miles from downtown and complain about 30 seconds of “delay” added from bike lanes, no turn on red, and other safety measures. Sorry your 2 hr commute became 2 hr 1 min!

I’m not saying EVs aren’t part of the broader solution, but the primary goal HAS to be less driving & fewer cars. Picture tobacco companies selling “better cigarettes” as the solution (which can actually lead to MORE smoking), when we know the real solution is much less smoking.

Imagine how much better life would be — in a city, in a suburb, even in sprawl — if there were actually a cafe, bakery, daycare, elementary school, and grocery within walking distance of every house. These services represent ~ 70% of all car trips in the US.
