Great. Here is a list of our recommendations to include in the action plan. Specific to the Whitefield area (SFC) and Bangalore @PriyankKharge | @blrcitytraffic And before all the action points - ALL BTP officers on ground need to be given a crash course in managing traffic. Sorry to say - BTP does not know how to. And we say it with confidence, because we suffer it daily. Evidence and proof a plenty. See the u-turn at Graphite India Signal. 1. Signal Free Corridor idea needs to be abandoned. Whitefield is a pedestrian heavy area, with roads passing through shops & residences chock a block. Pedestrians need safe spaces to cross the road. ALL U-TURNS IN LIEU OF TRAFFIC LIGHTS NEED TO BE REMOVED 2. Wrong side driving and illegal parking on pavement needs to be penalised. At present, BTP does not even challan it. Every 2 wheeler and auto rides where they want, causing accidents and pile ups. And on the footpaths! 3. BMTC Bus drivers need to be fined for NOT stopping at the right place. Buses are notorious for stopping in the middle of the road. Fine them. 4. We need road signage. Where is B-TRAC. We need proper signage and markings on the road. For turn lanes, parking areas, lane discipline. And general direction.
Karnataka Home Minister @PriyankKharge on June 12 reviewed Bengaluru's traffic management system & said an action plan will be drawn up to improve road safety, strengthen enforcement of traffic rules and enhance the efficiency of the traffic police. During a visit to Bengaluru Traffic Management Centre, officials briefed him on the use of technology in traffic monitoring. Police informed the minister that while Bengaluru's population is growing at 3.7% annually, vehicle registrations are rising by 10%, increasing pressure on the city's 14,000-km road network managed through 53 traffic police stations @DgpKarnataka @CPBlr

i think financializing bengaluru's "footpath parking problem" is the only way to solve it right now, citizens can report parked cars and bikes on footpaths using an app, but they receive nothing but minor satisfaction when a challan is issued a bike that I reported got a challan issued for Rs 1,000 but the owner already has Rs 11,000 in pending challans so he clearly doesn't care instead of this, there should be incentives for: 1 - the reporter. 30% of the recovered amount of a successful challan should go to the citizen. Bengaluru Traffic Police has a functional app, a UPI integration for this is trivial. 2 - the collector, that is, the traffic police personnel. unless the challan amount is collected, the entire system breaks down. We need the traffic police to be incentivised to go after people with pending challans and recover the amounts. 30% of the recovered amounts can go to the individual traffic police personnel doing the recovery. as these are challans that *already* exist, the incentive for corruption is low. the owner of the vehicle has to pay the challan sooner or later, he can't pay a smaller amount to the traffic police and get away with it, because he will then be caught by the next guy again. the traffic police personnel doesn't have the authority to waive off an existing challan, and will be actually paid more to recover the amount. the state govt makes money, active citizens make money, traffic police doing their job make money can we foresee any unintended consequences? the only problem I foresee is having maybe too many people caught breaking rules @blrcitytraffic

Need to do this in Bangalore as well.
Dear @AshwiniBhide Ji and @mybmc, If such a nuisance is not removed by tom, I'll be forced to gather a crowd of runners, and we'll silently spoil all the posters early morning on Saturday before the city wakes up. Prepared to be beaten up to death! #PosterFreeMumbai

sometimes i want to pinch myself awake because how is it possible that something so beautiful like rivers could be turned so ugly and we would still just live our regular lives and do nothing about it
A man shared a video showing condition of the Gomti River in India's third cleanest city.

Are we ready to have the conversation about how security checks in Namma Metro need to go? 1. Is a massive waste of time, increases friction, and causes burnout esp for short distance travel 2. Doesn't help security in any way. Do you know how much time a proper security check would take? Compare it with the time it takes to do checks in airports. 3. Are a drain on resources. Bengaluru's metro is the most expensive in the country. Why aren't we looking at ways to cut out frivolous expenses? In the picture - the evening crowd in queue for the security check at the Swami Vivekananda Metro Station. This metro station has just one entrance, and every evening there is a long queue with every person waiting for a good 7 to 8 minutes just to get in. Imagine reaching here, tired, after work, having to remove your bag, spread your arms, it's a humiliation ritual that serves no purpose.

Fun related video: youtube.com/watch?v=PH_Z8Ghu… In London, some stations are so close to each other that someone with enough motivation can leave one train, run to the next station, and if they're fast enough still manage to catch the same train. Imagine doing this if there was a bored security guard patting them down.

Dear @krishnabgowda, Sub: Building walkable streets & infrastructure Congratulations on being appointed as the in-charge of Bengaluru. You have built a public image as an educated, upright, and honest leader, and many citizens look forward to seeing that reflected in the city's governance. Having travelled across the world, you would have witnessed some of the finest examples of urban planning and governance. One common thread across developed cities is their commitment to people-centric infrastructure rather than motor-centric infrastructure. Unfortunately, Bengaluru today remains largely devoid of safe, continuous, and WALKABLE FOOTPATHS. Instead, our streets are often marked by encroachments, garbage, construction debris, sand, and jelly stones. Children, senior citizens, and pedestrians are forced to share the road with fast-moving vehicles, putting their safety at risk every single day. The true measure of a developed city is not the number of flyovers it builds, but the quality of its public spaces and the ease with which people can walk, cycle, and access their neighbourhoods safely. Our benchmark should not merely be Delhi or Mumbai, but the world's best cities that have embraced global best practices in urban design and liveability. As you take charge, we hope pedestrian infrastructure, walkable streets, and public spaces receive the attention they deserve. A city built for people is a city built for the future. @TVMohandasPai @rk_misra @bengalurupost1 @kiranshaw

It is shocking that not many Bengaluru citizens are shocked. The copy-paste brazenness peaked when the author is the same for BMRCL & BBMP reports prepared 4 yrs apart by different consultants. 2020 report edited (changed header & footer) to produce the 5.5 crs 2024 report.

Your vote is your voice. BNP’s Voter ID Camp in Begur, organised under the Kevala Mathavala initiative, is helping citizens register, update, and correct their voter details ahead of the upcoming elections. Begur contestant Sandeep Reddy, Yelenahalli contestant Septinda, and BNP founder Srikanth Narasimhan were on the ground along with volunteers, supporting the initiative firsthand. From registrations to address changes, BNP volunteers are working to make the process simple and accessible for every Bengalurean. Want to bring the Voter ID Drive to your community? They call it B-SMILE 😃, but for citizens it is slowly becoming B-CRY😭. B-SMILE’s corporate structure makes it easier to keep citizens out of major public projects. Since it functions like a company and not a local municipal body, it avoids the usual public consultations and ward-level discussions that citizens deserve. Now, ₹3,100 crore tenders for 9 flyovers are being pushed ahead without clear public consultation, local input, or proper scrutiny by BMLTA. If bodies like BMLTA exist to oversee transport planning, why are such massive projects being cleared behind closed doors? @DKShivakumar @GBA_office @GBAChiefComm @siddaramaiah Bengaluru deserves Transparency, Accountability, and Citizen Participation. STOP the tendering process right now and obtain mandatory BMLTA approval first! #SaveBengaluru #BMLTA #NammaBengaluru #accountability #citizenparticipation #transparency

Proposing the cutting of 100ft road Indiranagar after all the time and money spent white topping it, to build a flyover, is criminal The construction will ruin what is arguably the only functional neighbourhood in our otherwise rotting city I hope that sense prevails
I agree. B-SMILE is unilaterally pushing many multi-crore projects. It has erstwhile BBMP senior officials who failed to deliver for the city & even CM @siddaramaiah himself had expressed displeasure with those officials, yet they continue to remain in their posts. There is no accountability & no public consultation. In the absence of an elected council, B-SMILE is doing more harm than good to the city.

SAVE THIS TWEET. And come back on July 31st to tell me I was wrong. Bengaluru civic elections will NOT happen by August 31st. Not because of citizens. But because MLAs across parties and the State Government benefit from delaying local democracy.

For nearly six years, Bengaluru has been denied the most basic layer of democracy, an elected local representative that citizens can hold accountable. Through garbage crises, flooding, broken roads and failing footpaths, we have had no corporator to question. The Supreme Court’s extension till August 31 must be the final indulgence. Bengaluru cannot be governed forever by administrators, notifications and excuses. The State Government and Election Commission must treat this as a hard deadline and restore elected local government without further delay.

What if every citizen had a direct say in how crores of rupees allocated to their ward should be spent? That is the idea behind BNP's #HemmeyaMara campaign. Our volunteers are going door to door, speaking with residents and asking one simple question: "₹60 crores is coming to your ward. Where do you wish it went?" Better roads? Cleaner streets? Safer footpaths? More trees? Reliable water supply? Every wish matters. Each aspiration will be compiled into a Ward Manifesto that reflects the real priorities of the people who live there and not the priorities of politicians. This is participatory democracy in action. Citizens who don't just vote once in five years, but help shape the future of their own neighbourhood. Your ward. Your budget. Your call. #HemmeyaMara #BNP #NammaBengaluru #WardManifesto #CitizenParticipation #ParticipatoryDemocracy #Bengaluru #LocalGovernance #BetterBengaluru #NammaWard

Bengaluru elections between 14 and 24 June, says State Election Commission. A new option this time - @NammaBNP. A local-only political party is rare, but helps keep the focus on the city and its issues in a local election.
