This week, the Senate passed my Anti-Shackling Bill, which would prohibit the inhumane practice of restraining pregnant and postpartum women who are in custody.

This means that for women who have survived the humiliation of birth in shackles, they are seen, heard and loved. Never should a mother give birth in shackles and shame on anyone who would want them to.

The New York Senate just passed the Maternal Health, Dignity and Consent Act! This would ban providers from drug testing pregnant New Yorkers without their consent.
Even though white women have similar rates of substance abuse, it's Black women that are tested more often.
