We had a great meeting with @EPAMichaelRegan at #COP27. Administrator Regan, a native of NC, stressed the importance of implementation & we couldn’t agree more. We are proud to support the @EPA to achieve its goals at home & abroad.

New paper out with @jbaker_forestry @CWade_NREcon @bleivacrispi @AjKondash considering energy poverty issues in energy policymaking (case study on Guatemala)
This paper led by @candiselhenry documents a long overdue modeling exercise: initialize different energy models with identical input data and see what happens.
Check out our new paper that just came out on an intercomparison effort between 4 macro energy modeling groups! We learned a lot about ways seemingly similar models can diverge and produce different results
We ran a little preliminary model-intercomparison-project for macro-energy-models.
By iteration 4, all four models converged on nearly identical solutions.
Sometimes, the devil lurks in details.

I encourage everyone (esp. those in academia and in positions of power) to read the stories under the hashtag #BlackInTheIvory and then do something about it
“You’re not going to get the Harvard job. But if you do, it’s because you’re black. And you won’t get tenure there, but if you do, it’s because standards are lower for African Americanists.” -Member of my cohort in grad school, now a prof at a top R1 #BlackintheIvory

white society: “But what about the replaceable broken windows? Who will take responsibility for that?”
At some point our country must meaningfully acknowledge that the killings of
Ahmaud Arbery,
Sean Reed,
Sandra Bland,
Tamir Rice,
Trayvon Martin,
Eric Garner,
Rekia Boyd,
Tanisha Anderson,
and countless others are not isolated incidents or “bad apples.”
It is systemic violence.
"...experts believed a flu pandemic was only a matter of time and that there could be millions of undiscovered viruses in the world."
Why were most govts so unprepared for COVID? What does it take for people to listen to the warnings of scientists?

So...it turns out we *do* have angostura bitters casually lying around. @rebeccaampeer and my cocktail for the evening is our take on The Horsefeather: 2 oz bourbon, 2 oz ginger liquor, 4 dashes angostura, 1 dash lime juice, and a little bit of sparkling water to make it potable
Inspired by @SteveDavisUCI, here is a drink @rebeccaampeer and I made up because we don't have angostura casually lying around: 1 pt vodka, 1 pt elderflower liquor, 3 pts lemonade, splash of lime juice (no fresh fruit on hand). Verdict: pretty delicious nonetheless
I'm not advocating uncontrolled panicking. If you panic for more than a couple of hours, you will exhaust yourself and
you may well not have to energy to panic later, when you really feel you have to
So try about 20 minutes panicking at 11.00 am, and then another spell at 6.00pm
We caught a bunch of @KenCaldeira's postdocs and graduate student collaborators from @Caltech at @rebeccaampeer's #AGU19 poster. Group photo time! What an impressive bunch of young scientists.
