Travel baseball has one major issue. We see parents already looking for the perfect “travel program.” Those don’t exist. What you need to be looking for is who has the best coach. The name doesn’t mean anything. The instruction means everything.

Pressure is a privilege
Tom Brady reveals the overlooked reason practice squad players never succeed in the NFL It’s not a lack of talent. Brady watched it happen for 20 years. The pattern was undeniable. As soon as a practice squad player got promoted and had to perform under real pressure, they crumbled. It took years for Brady to understand why. “There’s 53 guys on the active roster and there’s now 15 guys on the practice squad. So there’s 68 players. But those practice squad players are important because if anybody on the active roster gets hurt, they can get elevated to the squad.” “These scout team receivers would come in and practice with the scout team and they do really well. And I’d be watching. I’m like, ‘Man, we got to get that guy. Let’s get him up on offense. He’s making a lot of plays.’” “Then all of a sudden, we’re like, ‘Hey man, you’re doing really well. You got to come over here and deal with the pressure of succeeding now that you have expectation.’” “And these guys are like, they weren’t prepared for it. So whatever we saw in practice against where there was not a lot of pressure, now when they’re put in a situation where there’s an expectation for performance, they’ve never had to personally deal with that and then they fail.” “And then what I realized was a lot of guys on those practice squads, they don’t want to be elevated to the roster.” “They’re very happy living this life where they could tell their family and friends, which I have no problem with that. But the reality is a lot of guys don’t want the pressure of dealing with top.” Twenty years in the league and seven Super Bowl rings later, Brady learned that talent wasn’t the hardest thing to find. It was people who actually wanted the pressure that comes with being great.

Mandalorian and Grogu was a lot of fun! It had a little bit of everything in it. Great characters, fantastic beasts, amazing battles and even some laughs! Don’t let the naysayers stop you from seeing it! @starwars

Learn the difference between simplifying something and dumbing it down. Simplifying removes unnecessary structure without removing necessary substance. Dumbing down removes necessary structure and substance.

A player called me 15 years after he graduated. I wasn't ready for what he said. 1/5 He wasn't one of my stars. He was the kid I was hardest on. The one I benched on several occasions. The one who never quite got there on the field, but always seemed to find a way to keep fighting and to win. 2/5 He called to tell me he'd survived numerous battlefield wounds serving our country in the war with Iraq. He said: "You were the one person in my life who told me I was capable of more and that I could never quit because I hadn’t scratched the surface of what I was capable of…and that I couldn’t lose if I never quit. Your belief in me helped me to survive when it was hopeless in war.” 3/5 I had to sit down. Because in those moments (15 years earlier) as a coach, I wasn't sure I was doing the right thing. I was just holding the standard. 4/5 Fifteen years later he was calling to tell me the standard saved his life. 5/5 Love people enough to hold the standard. Even when they hate you for it. Especially then. That call is why I keep doing this work…Our job isn’t to be liked. Our mission is to create resilient humans who make a difference. Uphold the standard.

What sport humbles you more than baseball? You go 3-for-3 on Monday… then 0-for-3 with 3 punchouts the next day. That’s the game. The real question is: How do you handle failure? Do you quit when it gets hard? Or do you work harder than ever? That’s what separates people.

See a parent sitting quietly at a game? Often, that’s the one who gets it. No complaining. No criticizing coaches. No yelling at refs. No drama. Just watching their kid compete. Youth sports need more parents like those. Be part of the solution.

HS Baseball Players ⚾️ I’ve been around this game a long time, and something’s changed... We’re losing respect for the game. • Chirping after every pitch. • Celebrating routine plays like it’s Game 7 • Trying to embarrass opponents instead of beating them. That’s not toughness. That’s insecurity. 💯 Somewhere along the way, being loud became more important than being good. And the worst part? It’s being allowed. When I came up… • You showed up early. • You handled your business. • You played hard. • You shut your mouth. • If you had something to say… you said it with performance. • And if lines were ever crossed, the players took care of it. The truth: 👇 • Baseball is hard. • You’re going to fail. • You’re going to struggle. • The game doesn’t need more noise… • It needs more respect. • Nobody remembers who chirped. • They remember who showed up. • Who competed. • Who handled adversity. • Who left the game better than they found it. Want to separate yourself? Stop talking. Start working. Respect the game. 💯⚾️

Coaches are responsible for chirping What you allow- you condone If an umpire ever has to tell me that my bench was out of line- I’m either deaf or it’s time to give it up because I have failed these young men

HS Baseball parents & players — stop wasting money on showcases too early If your son hasn’t hit at least 2 of these numbers yet, it’s usually not worth it: 1. 84 mph from the field 2. 70 mph from behind the plate 3. 85 mph (RHP) / 82 mph (LHP) 4. Sub-7.0 60 5. 90 mph exit velo 6. Already playing (or clearly projected for) varsity Develop the numbers first. Then the scouts will find you Save this. Share it with a parent who needs to see it👇
HS Baseball players & parents… Please STOP waste money on a showcases unless 2 of the following are true: (Save this to reference these metrics) 1. You throw 84 mph from infield/outfield 2. You throw 70 mph from behind the plate 3. You throw 85 mph (RHP) 4. You throw 82 mph (LHP) 5. You run a sub 7.0 60 yard dash 6. Your hitting exit velo is 90 mph 7. You play or will expect to play varsity in the coming season If you don’t do these things, it’s a WASTE until you develop more!

I think one of the most asinine things I hear from parents is, "We let Johnny make his own decisions and he will ultimately have the final say on what team he wants to play on." These are children we are talking about. They have no clue what a good decision is for their future. It's the parents job to make sure they make the right one. They have to be herded to the correct decision. Kids will make irrational choices based upon factors that don't mean much in the grand scheme of things. They might pick a team because of the uniforms, what they see on socials, or it's where their friend plays. Rather than the coach, organization reputation, or development. Be an adult and make sure you don't let your child make a poor decision because you are afraid of confrontation. It doesn't matter if your kid likes you or their feelings are hurt. They don't know whats best for them yet. You do! Be the adult in the room. Don't let the prisoners run the prison. 👊🏼
