Israel’s critics constantly downplay the threats it faces. Reading Omer Bartov’s ‘Israel: What Went Wrong’, you’d think Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran posed no real danger. This is dangerously misleading, says Daniel Ben-Ami buff.ly/tFQfge5

Gaza’s sprawling underground tunnel networks are on the order of 100 times the length of Prague’s entire Blanka complex, roughly 500 km versus 5.5 km with around 5,700 shafts built over 15 years.

After being attacked by the Islamic Regime in Iran, Israel defends itself and returns fire.
The Israeli Air Force struck military targets belonging to the Iranian terror regime in western and central Iran a short while ago.

Our collective heart is shattered and our blood calls out for justice. A young Jewish woman — a 23-year-old nurse — was viciously assaulted on the NYC subway in broad daylight. A woman screamed the medieval blood libel “Jews are eating kids!” at her, “I smell the kids on you,” then choked her, threw her to the ground, beat her, and ripped out chunks of her hair. The victim ended up hospitalized with a concussion. This wasn’t random rage — it was pure, ancient Jew-hatred unleashed in 2026 New York. And where is Mayor Zohran Mamdani? Four days of deafening silence. No condemnation. No statement. No leadership. This is not leadership. This is complicity. When the highest elected official in our city refuses to speak out against a brazen antisemitic attack — especially amid a shocking 70% surge in anti-Jewish hate crimes — it sends a clear message: Jewish New Yorkers are fair game. Mamdani’s rhetoric, his policies, and his selective silence have helped foster an environment where medieval blood libels are shouted on our subways and Jews are targeted for simply existing. This young woman could have been any one of us. Any Jewish mother, daughter, sister, grandmother riding the train home. She is someone’s child. Someone who chose to heal others — and was brutalized for being Jewish. How many more attacks will it take? How many more silent days from City Hall? We are not strangers in this city. Brooklyn, our neighborhoods, our history — we built lives here after the Holocaust. We deserve to ride the subway, walk the streets, and live without fear. Enough. Call out the hate. Demand leadership that protects every New Yorker — including Jews. Silence in the face of blood libels and violence is not neutrality. It is permission. My heart weeps for this young woman. Never again means never again — not even in 2026 New York.

The Bund rejected Zionism. The Bund were all killed by Nazis and communists. For the vast majority of the Jews of the Eastern Hemisphere, the only survival and freedom they could find -- after trying every other imaginable option -- was Zionism. Zionism is big and diverse and complex and beautiful. Zionism is also the product of a vast, unspeakable tragedy. The Bund *should* have been able to build an interesting and flourishing Jewish world all its own, in the "hereness" of Eastern Europe. And in a better world, the Bund would have. But this isn't that world. In this world, the Nazi war on the millenia-old European Jewish civilization was successful, the Jews of Europe were wiped out -- and old ideas that once animated Nazis and Stalinists in their murder of Bundists have now returned into fashion on left and right and gone looking once more for the Jews. Is there a word that describes a Jew so pitiably afraid of the current whirlwind of hatred that they choose to build a fake past to live in, just so they can pretend that Jews ever had an alternative to Zionism? The Bund's story, like Molly Crabapple's ahistorical polemics, is merely one more data point demonstrating that Zionism's case is actually -- tragically, in fact -- impregnable. That it is a story of the transformation of catastrophic annihilation into triumphant freedom and survival.
Jews in the diaspora who want to celebrate their heritage without tying themselves to Israel might look to the Bundist concept of “hereness”, which a new book by Molly Crabapple celebrates economist.com/culture/2026/0…

The most distinct and important accomplishment of contemporary antisemitism is to gain a degree of public acceptance for the claim that a Jew can never be a victim. Whether this claim is justified on the ground that ‘you had it coming because of Gaza’ or because ‘you are the illegitimate beneficiary of Golders Greed’ does not matter. Depriving Jewish suffering of any moral significance is central to the narrative promoted through the current antisemitic zeitgeist. frankfuredi.substack.com/p/w…

Francesca Albanese just went on a crazy rant against Jews: • Germany “accepted the Jews.... those who learnt...they need to be superior.” • “No longer the People of the Book. But the Chosen People...” • “‘Chosen to dominate’? One may wonder looking at what Israel has become.”
Francesca Albanese says Germany “accepted the Jews, but not all of them. Especially those who have learnt that to survive in this world they need to be superior. No longer a fragile minority. No longer diasporic people. No longer the People of the Book. But the Chosen People. ‘Chosen to dominate?’ One may wonder looking at what Israel has become.”

What a mind-numbing set of clichés from both Zakaria and Bartov. Like everyone in the legacy media, Zakaria can’t resist the pleasure of exhibiting a Jew who pronounces Zionism a racist, genocidal ideology and repudiates his own people. And notice Bartov’s incentive structure. If he changes his mind about absolutely anything — farewell the New York Times opinion section, goodbye Fareed Zakaria, lehitraot prestigious academic gatherings, ciao new book deals. Only the rare honest and courageous intellectual would dare change his mind with this set of incentives.
Israel has long been one of America’s closest allies. But according to recent polls, it's rapidly losing support among the American public. I spoke with Israeli-American historian @bartov_omer, who has a new book out, “Israel: What Went Wrong?”

BREAKING: London’s Nova exhibition to commemorate the Jewish kids massacred on October 7th was removed per police request. The Met police asked the organizers to take the sign down out of fear of terror attacks on the exhibition. So grim.
