1 in 4 people trying to get a GP appointment last month couldn't, according to the ONS. We've gone behind the scenes at a busy GP clinic in Birmingham to see what a typical day on the NHS frontline is really like for doctors, nurses and support staff.

The BMA remains concerned and calls on the Israeli government to immediately release all arbitrarily detained Palestinian healthcare workers, including Dr Hussam Abu Safiya. With @AmnestyUK we have written to the foreign secretary demanding action to ensure that the Israeli government adheres to international law and medical neutrality. bma.org.uk/what-we-do/workin…

Today, we'll learn if a national screening programme for prostate cancer could soon become a reality, as a key group of scientists reveal their assessment of how successful a full-scale rollout could be in detecting early cases of the disease. 1 in 8 males will get prostate cancer in their lifetime. But there's speculation in The Times that experts could reject the idea. @dranitaraja with more on this.

Calls GPs "superheroes" twice and "legends" twice while arguing with the GP who's defending patients and surgery staff. What a creepy creepy condescending man!
Specialist “job advisers” will be placed in GPs' surgeries in England as part of a plan to try and get 300,000 long-term sick or disabled people into work by 2030. But will this put people who need medical treatment off seeing their GP? NHS GP Dr Anita Raja and Labour activist and Former Councillor Kevin Craig debate.

Agree with Dr Raja here, as 'white coat syndrome' so to speak, is very real. It could make anxiety much worse, for those already going through a tough time. This Labour government is choosing to do this, rather than tackle high private rents, costing billions. Think about that.

Today on GMB debating along side @KevinCraigUK on @GMB with phenomenal @edballs & @kategarraway Emphasising that this seems yet another unfunded administrative overload for GP surgeries. Job advisors are best suited in job centres.
Providing access to specialist job advisers in GP surgeries is all about giving people a hand-up, not a hand out - as @PatMcFaddenMP rightly says. It’s what @UKLabour is all about. The value of work is so important to physical health, mental health and general wellbeing. A good, spirited discussion with @DrAnitaRaja, @EdBalls and @KateGarraway on GMB this morning.

The data as presented seem to show that PA students seem to have slightly worse understanding of the common areas where med/PA curricula overlap, even when sitting the exam at the end of the year rather than at the start if I'm reading it correctly

Medicine in the UK in 2025. Doctors unemployed, asking if they can pick up jobs as nurses or paramedics. Any plans to address the unprecedented doctor unemployment we are about to see this August @wesstreeting?

This is the question I think all resident doctors should remember. 1. Colleges dictate *very* high standards for medical trainees 2. They then have developed roles specifically designed to replace their labour, without the standards All done without buyin/consent from residents.
How selfish of the residents! The temerity of doing medical school and umpteen mandated rotations for years to meet College standards, to have the College develop a model specifically designed to oust them, and the bosses facilitate it too. They had it coming.

Are we surprised that GPs are now working lesser hours? A work force which is at breaking point!
A shocking new survey shared exclusively with GMB by Pulse magazine suggests 1 in 7 GPs have turned to antidepressants to cope with the demands of their job. @dranitaraja talks to @charlottehawkns and @adilray about her own experiences. She explains how full time GPs are working 80-100 hours a week.
