My second dissertation study is out now in JAFD! ✅ 😬 In this paper, I use two different statistical approaches for modeling impulsivity and its relations to suicide ideation and internalizing/ externalizing symptoms among Native American youth in the ABCD Study.

Our paper on the efficacy of direct and indirect psychotherapy for suicidal ideation and suicide attempts in @JAMAPsych. Enormous effort led by @WvBallegooijen. This is a very important paper that should and will change clinical practice.
This meta-analysis found that both direct and indirect psychotherapy interventions led to significant reductions in suicidal ideation and suicide attempts. ja.ma/3zwBfpU

Important new study from some of our @CRISPatBrown colleagues, revealing that 20% of people in the US who died by suicide in one year had spent at least one night in jail in the year prior - bringing attention to community reentry as a critical moment for #SuicidePrevention.
New article from our @NCHATS_Center team. In this study, the nearly 7.1 million adults released from jail in 2019 accounted for 1 in 5 adult suicides in the US. Identification of adults w/recent jail releases can help community suicide prevention efforts. jamanetwork.com/journals/jam…

All of these 'where they raised me' posts have sent me back to Anna Schuleit's 'Bloom' installation when the old Mass Mental Health Center closed. A piece of art so moving I still can't express much about it. Miss that place.

Anxiety/stress was the #1 conversation topic in Crisis Text Line conversations last year, outpacing even relationships (#1 in 2022). For the first time, we were able to use natural language processing (NLP) to examine what's going on inside that anxiety/stress bucket... 1/3

Surging anxiety is often discussed in relation to macro-level events: geopolitics, climate change. These do come up, but what we found when we peered inside the anxiety/stress category was stuff much closer to home: once again, it's relationships, much of the way down... (2/3)

Emphasizing once again that social relationships and interpersonal connection are at the core of mental health, especially for young people. Kudos to my teammate @LiliTorok for leading this work; more here: crisistextline.org/united-in… (3/3)

From horror show to triumph! This is the moment when pianist Maria Joao Pires realises - as the orchestra starts to play - that she has learned the wrong piece for a concert. With no sheet music to fall back on, she has to keep calm and carry on. She is AMAZING. As is conductor Riccardo Chailly, who shows he’s surely the cheerleader we all want in our corner. Belief and bravery in action! Mozart’s Piano Concerto in D minor, my Stop the Clock piece @ClassicFM today…

So what's been happening to the resources that young people in crisis say help them cope? Over the past 10 years, access has fallen: examining public data, we found systematic cuts. Adults need to work to restore this core of support for youth wellbeing. shorturl.at/cmnsH
Social connections rising to the top again: in an analysis of over 87,000 crisis conversations, young people shared what communities can provide to support coping: social connections was #1, artistic expression #2, mental health services #3. shorturl.at/cmnsH
