The Rio 3.5 model broke the internet this week. The plot twist? It’s essentially our open-source model, Nex N2 Pro, wearing a different hat. 🤯 We analyzed the weights, and the recipe is exact: Rio 3.5 ≈ 0.6 * Nex N2 Pro 0.4 * Qwen 3.5 It even literally introduces itself as "Nex N2 Pro" if you ask it without initial system prompt! 😂 We are flattered that the City of Rio used our work to achieve SOTA performance. Thanks for the ultimate benchmark validation. 🤝 But in the open-source world, attribution matters. 👇 Full mathematical proof & verify script in the first reply!

Your REST API returns a status field. The client still has to guess what comes next. In this tutorial I build a small Quarkus service where HAL links change with workflow state. A CREATED shipment shows pay and cancel. After payment, those disappear and pack shows up. The server tells the truth about valid actions. The client follows links instead of maintaining its own state machine. the-main-thread.com/p/quarku… #java #quarkus #rest

Fable isn't the first. In 1999 the department of defense blocked exports of the PowerMac G4 for crossing the 1 gigaflop threshold. Steve Jobs turned it into an ad.

JUST IN: Andrej Karpathy, a top AI scientist at Anthropic, is reportedly barred from accessing the company’s most advanced AI model because he is not a U.S. citizen.

These models will be back; it’s just a matter of time. And then Anthropic will have a new marketing argument: “the so powerful models that the US government tried to ban”, which will make them even more popular. They should thank this administration! 😎
The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees. The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance. Access to all other Claude models is not affected. We apologize for this disruption to our customers. We believe this is a misunderstanding and are working to restore access as soon as possible. Read our full statement: anthropic.com/news/fable-myt…

Local AWS in Quarkus does not have to mean auth tokens or another hand-maintained compose file. This walkthrough switches Dev Services to Floci, seeds S3/SQS/SSM with a Python init script, and proves the PDF upload path with `@QuarkusTest`. the-main-thread.com/p/quarku… #Java #Quarkus #AWS #DevServices

Recently there was a decision in the @java world that left a lot of people unhappy. The #OpenJDK maintainers decided they will not accept contributions of AI-generated code. Before we react to it, let’s understand what’s actually going on. eldermoraes.com/openjdk-wont…

Coding agents love hardcoded test fixtures. I wrote a Quarkus walkthrough that replaces EVT-001-style literals with Datafaker Instancio, then teaches IBM Bob through a project skill so the next scaffold does not regress. the-main-thread.com/p/quarku… #java #quarkus #testing

Today I'm publishing a new essay, Policy on the AI Exponential. AI is progressing extremely fast—much faster than the policy process was built to handle. The essay lays out where I think the technology is now, and the action needed to close the gap: darioamodei.com/post/policy-…

A Quarkus endpoint can feel bad while CPU still looks calm. I wrote a hands-on JFR walkthrough that makes three problems visible in one small service: blocking work under a lock, temporary allocation spikes, and ugly startup behavior. It also compares the fix against the bad path in the same recording. the-main-thread.com/p/quarku… #java #quarkus

Hey @bcherny: I've put a long, complex task in Fable 5 and asked it to monitor the 5-house usage limit window, pause the task when it reaches 98%, and resume when the window resets. It has been managing itself for 12 hours by now! 🙂

This is a super exciting release - Claude Fable 5 is the same underlying model as Mythos but with added safeguards. The benchmarks are great and it's SOTA on everything by a margin but I'll add that *qualitatively* also, this is a major-version-bump-deserving step change forward (imo of the same order as Claude 4.5 was in November), peaking especially for long problem-solving sessions on very difficult problems. You can give it a lot more ambitious tasks than what you're used to, the model "gets it" and it will just go, and it's never felt this tempting to stop looking at the code at all (but don't do this in prod!). The model still has quirks that people will run into and the safeguards are configured to be a little too trigger happy for launch, which can hopefully be tuned over time. I feel a lot of things changing as working software increasingly comes out on a tap. The Jevon's paradox kicks in and I feel my own demand for software growing substantially. You can ask for anything - explainers, visualizers, dashboards, bespoke single-use apps (e.g. a full wandb that is hyper-specific just for your project), you can 10X your test suite, auto-optimize code, run giant research projects with custom HTML for the results, anything! "Free your mind" (Matrix ref). Really looking forward to all the things people build!

Fable 5 is state-of-the-art on nearly all tested benchmarks, with exceptional performance in software engineering, knowledge work, scientific research, and vision. The longer and more complex the task, the larger Fable 5’s lead over our other models.

Fable 5 is the biggest step up I’ve felt in our models since Opus 4.5 back in November. After 4.5 came out I uninstalled my IDE when I realized that I’d been doing 100% of my coding in a terminal for a few weeks. With Fable, it’s felt like Claude has stepped up from being a coding agent to a thought and design partner in building the product. Fable has judgement, taste, and dimensionality in a way that previous models didn’t, leading me to trust it more with the most complex work. I think the first time I had this realization was when I asked Fable to debug something. It is the first model I have used that was so methodical and precise, taking measurements and adding logs then verifying that it truly fixed the issue before declaring victory. There’s nothing in claude code’s prompting telling the model to do that, it’s just part of its personality. It really has this “big model smell” that I haven’t felt before.

Introducing Claude Fable 5: a Mythos-class model that we’ve made safe for general use. Its capabilities exceed those of any model we’ve ever made generally available.
