It's back. Incredible how giving the state powers to assist people to die, is a now considered a higher priority for some politicians than fixing an NHS that struggles to keep people alive. Grrr.
NEW: The Assisted Dying Bill is returning to Parliament this week. Labour MP Lauren Edwards will reintroduce it on Wednesday after coming 2nd in the private members’ ballot. “The process has been frustrated by a small minority”, she argues.

The government has announced £4.5 Billion spend on…getting you to walk more & cycle THAT is their ‘transport’ plan! Congratulations to the Green Billionaires like Hohn funding Activists that have captured local areas & pushing hard with government But they know the war on drivers & cars is hated by 37 million of us. They say ‘it’s to combine travel’ - We don’t want or need your Nudge & Shove interventionist politics Invest in infrastructure Sort out public transport! Stop taxing us all so much & facilitate economic growth - instead of encouraging entrepreneurs to leave due to tax and dire business environment The single most effective way to facilitate wealth & health is to have dynamic growth. Wealth creation for all. Economic dynamism Not forcing everyone to emulate China 50 years ago!! Free Our Streets! Take Back Democracy Together @mrmarkdolan

I could imagine you’d have got o well. Very sad news but what a long and wonderful life! So grateful for his inspiring art, his humour and his cheeky rebelliousness. Also a bit of a gay role model for me, from a very early age - in that he never let his sexuality define him.
We've lost one of the greats. Not only as an iconic artist of huge originality, but also a public figure with the courage to be a dissident. I once had the honour of chairing David Hockney on a panel. Yes, it was about the excessive Nanny statism about smoking. He made an eloquent case for choice & liberty. I was excessively star-struck. He was excessively modest. Ahh. Such a loss.

No serious newspaper or journalist would put their name to the Israeli rape dogs ‘story’. That this perverted myth was published by the New York Times shows just how far journalism has fallen. The public deserves better, says Cory Franklin buff.ly/lWnUsbK

@hackneycouncil spent a great deal of taxpayers’ money on rainwater gardens that are supposed to help with flooding. This is one of my favourite examples - looks to be encouraging flooding. @hackneygreens what can be done about this?

From the point of view of an ex teacher who taught extensively in both elite and barbaric schools; @daveclements_ recent book 'The Crisis in the Classroom' is hugely informative and thoughtful on this issue. (Apologies if you've already read it.)

Why am I utterly convinced the semi-literate hoon that typed this out has never read the book - but saw the title, so immediately made an assumption.
The Black Country Living Museum in Dudley now has a wonderful recreation of a 1960s public library, but why did they have to spoil it with nonsense like this?

My latest for the Spectator 🔽
How can you tell when an asylum seeker professing to be child is lying? Often, it's because he has crow's feet, a receding hair-line and a beard. In other words, it's sometimes obvious. That's what makes so risible those stories we habitually read of men who are patently not children being granted asylum on the pretence that they are. We sigh in exasperation because we know why they have been let in: they have been granted entry by a system manned or manipulated by credulous do-gooders. Human beings are good at intuition, at assessing each other non-rationally through mental processes we don't fully understand, of spotting fakes and fraudsters by their mien, gait and ostensibly innocuous facial gestures. Thus the notion that we could simply employ AI to gauge the truthfulness of human beings is highly suspect. How can we create technology to mimic the workings of the human subconscious when we don't entirely comprehend how it works ourselves? ✍️ Patrick West Article | spectator.com/article/you-do…

@MarinaPurkiss has blocked me so can't reply to her. Pass it on: she may be able to bully others with her online & TV slop & strops but no I won't pipe down in general. On this, little more but to repeat: she was unpleasant to a member of public who had audacity to criticise her.

Germany 🇩🇪: The 14-year-old German boy, Jermaine B., was brutally murdered and nearly decapitated inside an abandoned building near Memmingen station. The killer is Qais Saleh, a 37-year-old Palestinian immigrant. His asylum application was rejected, yet he was allowed to stay in Germany under “tolerated stay” status. He had a criminal record. After the murder he attacked police with a knife and was killed during the confrontation. Just like Henry Nowak, nobody is talking about it. The left stays silent and the media ignores the story completely. How much more do we have to endure?

🚨How Muslim leaders and Nazis collaborated during WWII to murder Jews. Waffen-SS Standartenführer Harun el-Raschid Bey praying with Muslim SS soldiers of the Osttürkische Waffen-Verband der SS in Slovakia, 1944. The unit was backed by the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, Amin al-Husseini, one of Hitler’s closest Arab allies. These Muslim SS units later fought in the Warsaw Uprising and anti-partisan operations in Eastern Europe. A chapter of history many prefer to ignore.
