Hong Kong is intensifying its fight against crypto crime with the launch of 'CryptoTrace,' a blockchain analytics tool developed by the Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau (CSTCB) in collaboration with the University of Hong Kong. This initiative aims to enhance the city's capabilities in tracking illicit cryptocurrency activities. CryptoTrace employs advanced blockchain analytics, graph visualization, and real-time transaction mapping to assist investigators in tracing laundered funds and identifying suspicious activities. The tool has already been integrated into training programs for frontline officers, bolstering their ability to handle virtual asset cases This development comes in response to a significant rise in crypto-related crimes, with Hong Kong reporting losses exceeding $3.1 billion in 2024 alone.
