External services shouldn’t shape your architecture. It’s tempting to plug a tool directly into your app. Feature flags with PostHog. Analytics SDKs. Remote config. It works. Until it doesn’t. One day you need to switch. Pricing changes. Performance drops. Or the tool just doesn’t fit anymore. And suddenly… your codebase is tied to it. The issue isn’t the tool. It’s that your app depends on it directly. A better approach is simple: Define your own contract. Then adapt external services behind it. Your system depends on your interface. Not on PostHog. Not on ConfigCat. Not on anything external. That’s what makes change cheap. Switching providers becomes an implementation detail. That’s also how we approach things in LucidClip. Keep the boundary clean. Keep the dependency replaceable.

I finally got to share some of the projects I worked on while absent here. I've been a long-time user of @ConfigCat. It allowed me to enjoy many weekends after failed deployments on Fridays. Their feature flag service is now natively integrated with Unreal Engine:

This entire stream was absolutely next level but two of my favourite parts: 1️⃣ @David__Zoltan from @ConfigCat coining the phrase "Procrastination Driven Development" 🤣 2️⃣ People racing to buy a #FeatureWands domain so we can create the next big thing in feature flagging 🪄
