Then we have this, which refers to a provision in the DPDIB amending the Online Safety Act to enable coroners to access information within social media accounts of children who have recently died.

The ICO was dead certain this would happen and, according to conversations revealed via FOI, very disappointed when the bill died.
The "new powers" mentioned *might* refer to this "enforcement of data regulations" stuff from the DPDIB, or the raised PECR fine ceiling?

So there was no specific "AI bill" brought forward in the King's Speech, but it looks like some bits of the DPDIB will be resurrected.
First, reforms to the ICO sound like they will remain largely intact.

This government’s answer to DPDIB announced! Labour are keeping the good bits (progress on @SciTechgovuk's Trust Framework, greater powers for ICO, and smart data provisions) and binning the bad (e.g. *that* DWP clause)

Exactly. It's not a DPDIB. If anything we need versions of AIA and DSA tho I doubtvwell get them. We absolutely don't need to waste money on Sunaks vanity project AISI unless thoroughly revamped

A new #DPDIB is entirely the wrong framing : primarily devised to pointlessly diverge from GDPR on purely ideological grounds. Lab needs a bill that will preserve worker and fundamental rights and spread innovation across UK not just SE bubble. Wld be so ☀️

Hadn't quite put this together till now, that DPDIB change would make it easier to process personal data to train LLMs without either consent *or* concern for impact on data subject privacy. @ICOnews consultation must oppose this firmly .

GDPR also requires reflection when relying on "legitimate interests" to process data, to check it's necessary and doesn't pose a risk to people.
#DPDIBill enables orgs to side-step that process, through "recognised legitimate interests" for eg national security, crime.

I replied as below a while back with my concerns over Palantir & the tory re-writing of the #GDPR as #DPDIB, where citizen permission for use of our data for "scientific purposes" would no longer be required (sorry, I keep meaning to create a thread)
