Heavy work does not belong on the main app thread. Xojo’s Worker class lets you push CPU-intensive jobs into separate helper processes, so your desktop app stays responsive while the real work runs in the background. Better UX, less lag, fewer annoyed users.

There’s a different kind of satisfaction that comes from building desktop applications 💻🔥
It’s not just about writing code — it’s about creating real, powerful tools that people can rely on anytime, anywhere, even offline.
No browser lag. No constant internet dependency.
Just smooth performance, full control, and functionality at your fingertips. ⚙️✨
Desktop development lets you build experiences that feel personal and fast — whether it’s a management system, productivity toolkit, or custom utility that solves real problems.
I enjoy crafting apps that combine clean UI, solid structure, and efficient logic — the kind of software that actually gets things done. 💪
Desktop development isn’t outdated tech — it’s precision engineering for reliability, performance, and real-world impact. 🚀

The Kuiq desktop app for Sidekiq really helped me out in troubleshooting a Rails app issue locally and resolving today:
github.com/mperham/kuiq
It was created by the Sidekiq project owner, Mike Perham, right after he attended my #RubyConf2023 "How To Build Desktop Applications in Ruby" 2-hour workshop last year. He pinged me at the conference shortly after he created the initial app in #Ruby and had me collaborate with him on building the rest of its features.
Lots of benefits come out from attending RubyConf talks and workshops. You never know what sort of new open-source Ruby projects will spring up as a result (just like the Kuiq desktop app for Sidekiq)!
I will be conducting a simplified version of the same 2-hour workshop at #RubyConf2024 titled "How To Build Basic Desktop Applications in Ruby":

Join us at this workshop and build your great Ruby desktop app ideas afterwards at the Hack Day event!

Slides from my talk “JRuby 10: Ruby 3.3 (actually 3.4) on the Modern JVM” are published! The video should be out soon, and we have some big announcements coming up next week about the future of JRuby!
