I will continue to raise concerns regarding the construction of schools by the Victorian Department of Education, under the responsibility of @BenCarrollMP . These projects are not complying with the National Construction Code and relevant Australian Standards. Despite these issues being consistently raised with all relevant parties—including Minister Carroll, the Department of Education Victoria, @AusGovEducation, the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA), individual schools, builders, consultants, and other stakeholders—no meaningful action has been taken to address them. This lack of response persists even following a fatality linked to the non-compliance. Furthermore, the continued failure to rectify these matters, despite formal notification, places all advised parties in breach of the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cth). Last night @Tesco banned me – female polite wheelchair user - from my local Didsbury Tesco Express on “Head Office instructions”, 72 days after I made a formal disability discrimination complaint they never answered. I have never been rude or aggressive. The manager smiled as he did it. This study was very poignant, one of my children recently came out of an appointment (doesn’t have an autoimmune condition) turned to me and said “they didn’t say it was in my head and that they listened” she was able to engage with the clinician because she was listened to by that clinician Others have not been so lucky, and this has caused great harm to my family and other families #Disabilitydiscrimination is rampant in public services and even in health care , this study was about autoimmune disorders but many people with rare diseases/ disorders will be all to familiar with #medicalgaslighting or diagnostic overshadowing which can lead to discrimination A study involving over 3,000 participants – both patients and clinicians – found that these misdiagnoses (sometimes termed “in your head” by patients) were often associated with long term impacts on patients’ physical health and wellbeing and damaged trust in healthcare services. The researchers are calling for greater awareness among clinicians of the symptoms of such diseases, which they recognise can be difficult to diagnose, and for more support for patients. Autoimmune rheumatic diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus and vasculitis are chronic inflammatory disorders that affect the immune system and can damage organs and tissues throughout the body. They can be very difficult to diagnose as people report a wide range of different symptoms, many of which can be invisible, such as extreme fatigue and depression. Patients who reported that their autoimmune disease was misdiagnosed as psychosomatic or a mental health condition were more likely to experience higher levels of depression and anxiety, and lower mental wellbeing. For example, one patient with multiple autoimmune diseases said: “One doctor told me I was making myself feel pain and I still can’t forget those words.
