** Start Praying **
Regardless of age or diagnostic status, if you are
#autistic your life has been affected by Dr. Damian Milton’s
#DoubleEmpathyProblem
Theory. There is no avoiding it. It happens to everyone. It happens disproportionally to us. What happens if you are autistic - and - a
#suicide attempt survivor? What if you know about one but not the other... for years?
Those were the questions I asked myself as I set out to thread the connection between Dr. Milton’s theory and my reality as an autistic suicide attempt survivor, over a week ago. I never imagined that my editor, with The Unexpected Autistic Life, would contact me with what she said a few days ago.
“Hello, I just reviewed this story. I left a few notes. I feel that if you address the suggestions, this story could have a strong chance of being boosted.”
Boosting, on the platform Medium, as I understand, is similar to boosting on Twitter. It greatly increases the chances of the target writing to go viral. For my editor to say I had a strong chance was the first time she’s ever expressed that for my writing. Every time I missed the mark. So often that I stopped believing I would get selected.
Therefore, since Wednesday, her and I have been pouring over the writing making every possible change in the hopes of it being selected for boosting. Exactly what topics does “Discussing Suicide as an Autistic Person Is a Trap” cover?
