Young people have raised concerns over various social ills at the National Youth Parliament, underway in Johannesburg.
The dialogue is being held to commemorate the 1976 Soweto Uprising ahead of Youth Day to mark the same historic event on Tuesday.
Some high schoolers have raised concerns over the high unemployment rate, mental health issues, and the school dropout rate, among other things.
They say these are just some of the issues they are observing in their communities that could affect their future.
Learner 1: “Unemployment is something that scares us as high school learners, with a 60 % rate, our chances are lower.”
Learner 2: “Long-term impacts include limited jobs, lower income, and higher risk of poverty."
