This year marks the 50th anniversary of NAIT’s Bridge Building Competition, a tradition that has inspired generations of future engineers, technologists, and problem-solvers.
On September 27, around 130 students, instructors, alumni, and industry members took part in the annual Gary Stroich Bridge Building Competition, racing to set up a rope bridge across the creek and complete 30 crossings, including one carrying a heavy bale of insulation to simulate a rescue scenario. The fastest teams earned bragging rights and had their names engraved on trophies.

IBM just dropped a game-changing roadmap — a practical quantum computer by 2029 is officially in the works. 🎯
Quantum computers are built to solve problems classic machines can't touch, but error correction has always been the bottleneck. 😵💫
That’s changing.
🧩 IBM’s new system, "Starling", will feature 200 logical qubits, enough to finally outperform classical computing in real-world tasks.
📍Location? A new data center in Poughkeepsie, NY.
📅 Target: 2029 → Larger systems by 2033.
The twist? IBM flipped the script — instead of designing chips around theory, they designed error correction around real chips. 💡
🛠 “We’ve solved the science,” says IBM Quantum VP Jay Gambetta.
👉 “Now it’s just an engineering challenge.”

Celebrating our Engineering Riggers Part 2:
Eng. Ryan Lubemba started as a Radio Technician/ Rigger for Radio Phoenix.
In this file Photo taken in 2004, Ryan was working in a team to install the 89.5FM core transmitters at Kaloko station in Ndola rural, as 89.3FM, which effectively provided network coverage for Copperbelt and all northern areas for Radio Phoenix.
Prior to this instalation, Radio Phoenix was providing their services since their licensing in 1996 by renting a mast post from Zamtel but experienced challenges with signal interferences.
