Women’s Reservation… Where is Justice for BC Women? @narendramodi @AmitShah @RahulGandhi While the Women’s Reservation Bill is being projected as a historic step, a fundamental question remains unanswered is this reservation truly for all women? Since 1996, the Congress government consistently pushed for women’s reservation, culminating in the Bill being passed in the Rajya Sabha in 2010. However, even then, a critical demand was raised a sub-quota for BC (OBC) women. In the 2023 Bill, while sub-quotas are provided for SC/ST women, it is striking that BC women,who constitute nearly 50% of India’s population have been completely excluded. In Telangana alone, BCs account for approximately 50–52% of the population. The government argues that a decision will be taken after a caste census. Yet, by delaying the census and linking the Bill’s implementation to Census and Delimitation, its execution is effectively postponed to post-2029 raising serious concerns about political intent. Without a BC sub-quota, the benefits of reservation are likely to be cornered by socially dominant groups, leaving backward-class women once again underrepresented. 👉 Women’s empowerment must mean equal opportunity for all.
