2011: Private equity firm Thoma Bravo announced the acquisition of Tripwire, 11 months after Tripwire announced plans for an IPO. In 2014 it sold Tripwire to Belden for $710 million. In 2022 Belden sold Tripwire to HelpSystems (which changed its name to Fortra later in 2022).

Forta (aka HelpSystems) is making moves to collect all the good tooling like they’re Pokemon. It’s an interesting play. Impacket follows Outflank and Cobalt Strike, and they had Core Impact for a while before that.

Yes, we changed our name to Fortra. No, we didn’t get acquired. Yes, I still slip up & say HelpSystems. No, we are NOT abandoning #IBMi. Yes, I have to change a lot of presentation material… So, why did we do it? Our new Fortra name better reflects our impressive security focus.
