#GqeberhaAffinityEvent | Archbishop Thabo Makgoba dedicated his HonDoc to the students who cannot afford their fees.
While the national student debt burden is a whopping R17 billion, student debt at Rhodes University amounts to R321 million.
The aim of the Affinity Event in Gqeberha tonight is to highlight the University's ongoing efforts towards financial sustainability and garner alumni support in addressing critical challenges such as student debt and infrastructure development.

Did you know that the first oral polio vaccine was developed by UC researcher Albert Sabin (HonDoc '74) in the late 1950s? Sabin began researching poliomyelitis in the 1930s after a NYC outbreak. Sabin refused to patent it because he wanted it to be used as broadly as possible.
