@elonmusk Reveals @Starlink Insane Future Scale: Over 100,000 Next-Gen Satellites Incoming! Elon Musk just dropped a major update on Starlink’s long-term vision: there will ultimately be more than 100,000 V3, V4, and V5 satellites providing broadband and direct-to-cellphone connectivity worldwide. He also highlighted that the new V3 satellites alone deliver 1,024 Gbps downlink capacity — a massive 10.7x jump over V2’s 96 Gbps. If growth continues at this pace, Musk says Starlink will one day carry the majority of global internet traffic, essentially becoming the internet itself. Everything else — terrestrial networks, ISPs, and carriers — will simply connect to the Starlink backbone. The satellite internet revolution is moving faster than anyone imagined! #Starlink #ElonMusk #SpaceX #SatelliteInternet #StarlinkV3 #DirectToCell #GlobalInternet #SpaceTech #FutureOfConnectivity #InternetBackbone

The rising threat to subsea cable infrastructure in the Strait of Hormuz underscores a critical yet often overlooked dimension of ongoing geopolitical tensions involving Iran. Beyond its role as a key oil transit route, the Strait serves as a vital digital corridor, carrying the majority of global internet traffic through submarine fibre-optic systems such as the Asia-Africa-Europe 1 (AAE-1) cable and the FALCON cable system. Any disruption whether accidental or deliberate, could result in widespread internet outages, financial instability, and significant economic losses. While most cable faults historically stem from non-hostile causes like ship anchors or fishing activity, the risks are considerably heightened in a conflict environment due to naval operations and maritime hazards, with repair efforts further constrained by security and logistical challenges. The current escalation in and around the Strait is deeply concerning. Instability in this strategically concentrated corridor could rapidly extend beyond the region, disrupting global communications, financial systems, and digital services relied upon worldwide. Given the limited capacity of alternatives such as satellite networks, this vulnerability highlights the urgent need for coordinated international action to safeguard subsea infrastructure, enhance maritime risk management, and build resilient redundancy frameworks to prevent far reaching global disruption. #StraitofHormuz #GlobalSecurity #SubseaCables #Internetbackbone #Geopolitics

🌍 A global map of submarine internet cables reveals the hidden backbone of the world's digital connectivity: over 1.3 million km of undersea fiber-optic cables carry nearly 99% of international data traffic. These cables connect continents, landing at hundreds of stations worldwide, with dense clusters around data hubs like the US East Coast, Europe, Singapore, and emerging routes in the Arctic and Pacific. The latest TeleGeography Submarine Cable Map (updated 2026) shows 694 active/planned systems and 1,893 landing points, highlighting how global internet relies on this vulnerable underwater network rather than satellites.

The global internet looks decentralized. It isn’t. Huge amounts of the world’s data pass through a single geographic corridor. Just like oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz… the internet has its own chokepoint. youtu.be/5N8y_O4GGvc #InternetBackbone, #SubmarineCables, #CyberSecurity, #Tech

“Their success is silence. Their failure is headline-level noise.” So who are they? They’re the engineers awake at 3 AM, watching dashboards, handling alerts, fixing failures before users notice. They don’t build hype — they build stability. When everything just works, that’s them. When it doesn’t, everyone hears about it. Invisible when successful. Unforgettable when absent. #SRE #DevOps #OpsTeam #PlatformEngineering #CloudEngineering #SysAdmin #NOC #Infrastructure #OnCallEngineers #TechBehindTheScenes #InternetBackbone

LOOKING BACK AT 2025: 2025: The Year Cloud Outages Exposed Internet's Fragility and Cascading Failures TECHNOLOGY NEWSWIRE: Major provider misconfigurations triggered outages, with Microsoft Azure experiencing a global outage from a tenant configuration change and Google Cloud facing a multi-hour disruption from a Service Control feature update, showing how routine updates can cascade into widespread failures. CLOUD OUTAGES: Platform outages affected work and play—Slack and Zoom faced issues tied to maintenance and domain problems, while gaming services like Fortnite and Epic Online Services encountered login/authentication failures near peak periods. CYBER ATTACKS: Ransomware and supply-chain attacks, including the Ingram Micro incident linked to SafePay, demonstrated that cyber threats can cause outages as damaging as technical faults by targeting critical distribution and licensing platforms. The pattern shows centrality of identity and login services, with both work and consumer platforms experiencing authentication bottlenecks that degrade user experience. Ingram Micro’s July ransomware attack disrupted online ordering, billing, and licensing for thousands of customers for nearly six days, highlighting cyberattack impacts on global tech supply chains. These outages demonstrate that even routine configuration and updates in complex clouds can provoke significant disruption across services. The October 2025 AWS outage in US-East-1, caused by a DNS error affecting DynamoDB, was the year’s largest incident, impacting over four million Downdetector reports and more than 1,000 companies. A common thread across incidents was centralized identity and authentication systems, plus DNS/CDN dependencies and login services, illustrating how single points of failure ripple through multiple services. The outage stretched nearly 15 hours, underscoring how a single DNS hiccup can cascade into widespread DynamoDB issues and affect vast numbers of users and services. 2025 emerged as a watershed year for cloud and digital outages that disrupted payments, airlines, messaging apps, gaming, and more, underscoring how fragile the internet’s backbone has become. The year exposed the digital economy’s dependence on interconnected, often opaque back-end systems, where outages in DNS, CDNs, and login services can trigger cascading disruptions across regions and sectors. Sadly, widespread cloud outages and cyberattacks revealed the fragility of the internet’s backbone and the risk of cascading failures across interconnected services. #2025Review, #CloudOutages, #InternetFragility, #CascadingFailures, #AWSOutage, #AzureOutage, #GoogleCloudOutage, #DynamoDB, #DNSFailure, #USEast1, #MicrosoftAzure, #ConfigurationChange, #TenantChange, #ServiceControl, #QuotaUpdate, #CloudflareOutage, #SlackDown, #ZoomIssues, #EpicGames, #FortniteOutage, #Ransomware2025, #IngramMicroAttack, #SafePayRansomware, #SupplyChainAttack, #CyberAttacks, #AuthenticationFailure, #IdentityServices, #SinglePointOfFailure, #CDNDependencies, #LoginBottlenecks, #DigitalEconomy, #InternetBackbone, #TechDisruptions, #GlobalOutages, #HyperscalerFailures, #CloudResilience, #MultiCloud, #Downdetector, #OutageReports, #TechNews2025, #Cybersecurity, #CloudComputing, #InternetDependence, #ConfigurationErrors, #UpdateFailures, #RansomwareImpact, #SupplyChainRisk, #DigitalFragility, #2025TechYear
