My previous post addressed the issue of #educationalinequality in Nigeria. It proposed that we can improve the situation by providing in-depth #professionaldevelopment training for #teachers and revamping #learningprocesses. To achieve the #2030Agenda of "Leaving No One Behind," our priorities should shift towards strengthening #learningprocesses, particularly in underserved areas that lack essential human and material resources. Here are five key takeaways from my previous post that can help us achieve this: ✅ Address Educational Inequality: Recognize and tackle the disparities between public and private schools in Nigeria, focusing on equitable resource allocation and support for public schools to ensure all children have access to quality education for future opportunities. ✅ Enhance Teacher Training: Develop and implement comprehensive training programs that equip public school teachers with skills in diverse #learningstyles and experiential learning methodologies, ensuring they can cater to the needs of all students. ✅ Improve Infrastructure and Resources: Advocate for and support improvements in the infrastructure of public schools, including reducing overcrowding, renovating buildings, and providing essential teaching materials and modern technology. ✅ Promote Active Learning: Encourage the adoption of active learning strategies that engage students in #criticalthinking and real-world problem-solving, moving away from traditional lecture-based teaching methods. ✅ Supportive Leadership and Policy Advocacy: Train education managers to effectively observe and support teaching practices, and advocate for long-term policy changes that address systemic issues in the education sector, ensuring sustainable improvements in public education. Together, these efforts will help bridge the educational divide and ensure no child is left behind, paving the way for a brighter future for all Nigerian children. I'm eager to hear your thoughts! Were there other factors you felt were important? Perhaps specific strategies for underserved areas, or the role of technology in education? #Education is a powerful tool for personal and societal advancement, yet children in Nigeria have access to vastly different levels of #education (public, private, and international schools), indirectly creating #barriers and bridges for skill acquisition, which can significantly impact their future opportunities. Yes, #education is generally attributed as a weapon to change the world, but it can also be a weapon to #perpetuate #inequalities. As a trained #teacher who has taught in both private and international #schools in Nigeria, I have witnessed first-hand, the stark disparities between these #schools, and how the "process of learning" #perpetuates #inequalities and leaves certain children behind (a clear impediment to the 2030 agenda of "Leaving No One Behind"). While private #schools often provide their students with 21st-century technological resources, highly qualified #teachers, and robust infrastructure, public #schools struggle with overcrowding, lack of resources, dilapidated buildings, low-quality #teachers, and underfunded programs. This discrepancy in the "process of learning," especially during #foundational learning and developmental stages, not only affects academic outcomes but also shapes the social and economic trajectories of millions of Nigerian #children in the future, particularly in job opportunities. The consequence of this is usually felt by #children in rural areas or from low-income families. Yes, the challenges in government-owned #schools require massive funding and long-term policy implementation, but there are immediate, evidence-based strategies and "WHAT WORKS" practices to ensure #educational #equity and #equality in the "process of learning" for public #schools. Based on my experience as a #teacher in these two school systems, in this post, I shared my experience highlighting the importance of the "process of learning" in shaping the future of children. I also offered recommendation to educational stakeholders focused on #teachers' training.
