Cost of Running Parliament: Between 21st July & 8th August, the estimated expenditure to run parliamentary sessions amounts to approximately ₹11 crores. This includes: •Salaries and allowances of Members of Parliament & support staff •Operational expenses such as security by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), infrastructure maintenance, utilities & digital technology enabling transparent proceedings •Logistics & administrative costs supporting efficient legislative functioning Breaking it down further, after excluding weekends, the average daily cost is around ₹73 lakhs an investment in maintaining the sanctity and smooth functioning of the nation’s highest legislative body. The Opposition’s Disruptions: A Disservice to Democracy Unfortunately, repeated disruptions and boycotts by opposition parties prevent Parliament from functioning effectively. This is more than political posturing it is ‘antiparliamentary behavior’ & a serious democratic disservice that undermines: •Legislative productivity: Important bills and policies get delayed or shelved, affecting governance and national progress •Public accountability: Parliament’s role in scrutinizing the executive weakens, reducing transparency •Democratic discourse: The vibrant exchange of ideas, essential for a healthy democracy, is stifled This strategy amounts to ‘political obstructionism’, prioritizing short-term political gains over national interest. It deprives citizens of the benefits that come from timely legislation on health, economy, education & infrastructure.
