We *do* measure development in per capita terms and against global benchmarks.
This op-ed alone used three data sources: SRS, NHFS, and population projections. Many other indicators are routinely collected and reported.

The bar has been low. 'Never better' is not the same as 'good'. We should MEASURE these things in per capita terms, and against global benchmarks.

TFR is below 3 in both Bihar and UP.
SRS (2024) says 2.9 & 2.6.
NHFS-6 (2023-24) says 2.7 & 2.2.
Both were released in May 2025.

NHFS-6 data shows Bihar's liquor prohibition has failed. Gutka ban has failed too (sixfold rise in a decade). So has the vape ban. How many failures before govt realises bans don't work and adopts harm reduction measures?

Firstly, why are these officials not on record? Secondly, if these indicators were always part of the NHFS, why have they been removed now? Thirdly, not all of those indicators are covered by other surveys. Finally, actual data will bare the truth of the Modi regime.

nope in nhfs 5 maharshtra muslims had tfr of 2.06 with urbanisation % of 75 while rural mewati muslims had tfr of around 4 , if they were 90 % urban then they would have been lower than that

rural muslims pockets are driving the demographic change in each state and on national level , without these pockets the tfr gap would have been 0.20 in nhfs 5

It is now 0.3 high now but it is declining faster than hindu and fertility rate of delhi is 1.6 and for India its 2 not change from nhfs 5 this is random srs data not trustable nhfs is credible

Indias fertility rate is 2 according to nhfs which is more credible than any ohter survey and it is reamin same ij 2024 as in 2019
It is below replacement level but no data is showing declining
