I was truly honored to participate as a guest speaker at the Ministry of Justice, Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service Parole and Reintegration Regional Conference.
My address centered on the transformative role of technology in justice and correctional services. I outlined our Ministry’s work in two key areas:
1. The ongoing digitalization of our national prisoners’ database.
2. The strategic integration of Artificial Intelligence to enhance prison system management, security, and rehabilitation planning.
As the Ministry of ICT, our mandate is inherently cross cutting, and we are dedicated to fostering digitization as a cornerstone of modernization across all government sectors. While we proudly celebrate existing advancements like the Integrated Case Management System, we are steadfast in our mission to continuously upgrade and evolve these systems to keep pace with global best practices.
Beyond infrastructure, we are deeply committed to digital inclusion. In partnership with the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service and under the esteemed patronage of our First Lady, Dr. A. Mnangagwa, through the She Tech initiative, we have established Digital Centres in our prisons.
Digital Centres at Marondera Prisons and the recently completed Chikurubi Maximum (awaiting commissioning) will ensure inmates gain critical digital literacy, empowering them for better reintegration and ensuring
#NoOneIsLeftBehind in our digital future.
This holistic approach of modernizing systems while uplifting people is key to building a more efficient, just, and inclusive society.
