IIT Kanpur's Department of Space, Planetary & Astronomical Sciences & Engineering (
#SPASE), in collaboration with Ranjit Singh Rozi Shiksha Kendra (RSK), is launching Astronomy and Science Clubs in government schools across the state. This initiative aims to spark interest in science and space exploration among students, providing them with essential knowledge and skills. Participating schools will receive specially designed kits containing over 100 hands-on experiments, promoting interactive learning and practical experience.
The inaugural Astronomy and Science kit was presented to Dr. Kiran Prajapati, District Coordinator of the District Science Club, Kanpur Nagar, marking the official start of the program. Dr. Tejpreet Kaur from IIT Kanpur, also involved in the Khagolvani astronomy outreach project supported by the International Astronomical Union’s Office of Astronomy for Development (IAU-OAD), emphasized the significance of astronomy in helping students understand their place in the universe. The program will soon include night-sky observation sessions and astronomy activities, aiming to further engage young learners in scientific exploration.
Supported by CSR funding from the State Bank of India (SBI), the initiative began with ten government schools, with plans for broader expansion. SBI’s Deepak Kumar Dey and Roopesh Gangwar expressed strong support for the project, highlighting its potential to inspire students and make a lasting impact on their education. The ceremony was attended by distinguished guests from IIT Kanpur and RSK, including Prof. Amitesh Omar, Sudhanshu S. Singh, Prof. Sandeep Sangal, and Rita Singh.
