Charms of On-Site training
On-Site training sessions are always a welcome change from the regular lectures, and if the site happens to be by the river in South Sikkim, believe you me, it is more than change; it is rather heavenly.
On the 13th of December, I spent a day at the NTPC project site at Rammam, addressing and interacting with the project site staff on professional ethics and values. It was an exciting mix of participants: engineers, medical professionals, IT professionals and CSR staff.
During the session, I discussed ways of integrating personal and professional values. The session's highlight was the discussion on unethical practices and the cost of unethical behaviour. For instance, a professional's moral compromise not only leads to a loss of image but can also prove to be a financial burden for the company.Β
The other themes discussed were:
* The issue of "technical dishonesty"Β
* Can one be responsibly disobedient?Β
* Ways of handling professional ethical dilemmasΒ
* Creating a culture of integrity
Overall, I intended to stress the need to integrate professional competence with the value goals of public sector enterprises.
