Ringing the bell and closing the chapter on active cancer treatment is a massive victory. But for many survivors, the next big milestone—stepping back into the workplace—comes with an unexpected mix of excitement, anxiety, and overwhelm. Returning to a career is an emotional one. You are navigating an environment that stayed exactly the same, while you have fundamentally changed. Managing professional expectations while dealing with post-treatment fatigue, "chemo brain," or the emotional weight of your journey requires a deliberate strategy. Stepping back into your career is a powerful sign of reclaiming your life, but it is a marathon, not a sprint. Give yourself the grace, time, and patience to adjust to your new normal. 🔗 Read the pinned comment to access our comprehensive guide on navigating life and career as a survivor. #CancerSurvivor #ReturningToWork #LifeAfterCancer #Survivorship #WorkplaceWellness #CareerTransition #CancerSupport #AmericanCancerFund #knowcancer

Just a little reflection for anyone else feeling the "Holiday Scaries" post a mini-break. Today is one of those days when I find myself mentally reluctant to tackle anything. Usually, on such occasions, I allow myself the necessary rest. However, after two weeks filled with the constant cycle of packing, unpacking, and setting up my new place, along with the Holiday celebrations, I've come to understand that my current fatigue isn't physical; rather, it's my body's response to returning to work. Let me clarify—I genuinely love the work I do and my research. But, after a long break from work, the thought of diving back in can be overwhelming. It's an emotional response that I've come to recognize in myself. Some of you may relate to this, especially if you were fortunate enough to have a break from work for the holidays, so please be kind to yourself. Notice how your body is responding and treat it with compassion and empathy. If you can relate and experience similar days where you sense a disparity between physical and mental exhaustion, acknowledge it. Be kind to yourself, but also gather the strength to push through. Try engaging in a simple task that doesn't demand much energy but can leave you feeling accomplished for breaking through the initial resistance.
